Eduard have just announced their releasing the overtrees kits again for the MF and SMT for a limited period during July! $24.95 is a bit of a bargain for such a great kit!

Sorry to be dense, but:

  • does this mean you can buy a single 1/48 Fishbed from Eduard for only $24.95? (:)) and
  • is this available only direct from them, in which case, will their murderous postage charges apply? (:o)

Not dense at all, it took me a bit of working out when they released them first time round! Yes, you can buy the kit on it's own for $24.95 and yes it's only available from them direct, how much is there p&p? When I bought the MF earlier in the year it was free! Remember also, as with other overtrees kits there's no instructions or decals, but the instructions can be downloaded from the site in PDF form.

Well, postage is $8.50 and there's VAT on top, so it comes out at $40 plus change. That's still pretty good - roughly £25 compared with £34 in the shops - so I've ordered one, berk that I am. Now to scavenge some Egyptian decals ...

No need to scavenge. Just be patient :)

With postage and VAT this worked out at €27 to Ireland - a pretty good deal, in my opinion.

Honestly, I think in six months to a year you'll be able to buy the SMT kit for a dime a dozen. They only built a handful of that version, and the options for markings & camouflage are *extremely* limited, to say the least. I just don't see it as being a very popular selling kit in the series for very long. I was actually quite surprised they even bothered doing it. I'd much rather they'd put that effort into a PFM right out of the gate.

sounds great spent a bit much this month already though :innocent:

i like the SMT i think its a very interesting variant though as jennings said its limited

for markings etc... as an side note i just picked up 2 subscriber edition mf kits and an smt for an excellent

price so i'm already pretty well stocked on mig-21's ,but in my opinion you just cant hyave enough of thesek its

now i just wish aires would stump up a pit for it .

what on earth is an overtrees kit ?

It's one they sell without decals or instructions. Bizarre. I suspect it may be called that - and sold like that - because of over-production of parts trees.

By the way, nice RS2000. It's not EBC 676T, by any chance?

Presumably so you can use up the extra decal options from the full kit? A typically innovative bit of thinking from the Czech boys.

Eduard have an early cockpit coming out in their Brassin range in August.

Do you also get the resin pods and Photo -etch??

PE, yes, according to the website. Not sure about the resin pods but as they were (I think) a special feature for the first release, probably not.

That's right. Brassin parts are not part of Overtrees kits. "Just" sprues, PE details and Eduard Mask.

Well, my MiG arrived today at last, and it's very nice. At first I thought they'd sent a real one, the box was that big.

You do indeed get an airframe, some etch (some of it in colour), and the masks, but no decals or resin bits. Also no instructions, which seems a strange economy even if you can grab them from the Eduard webshite. Still, not bad for around £25, especially as that includes VAT and postage. If it's still available, Pigsty's top tip: go for it.

Looks like a good deal, but if I have to buy aftermarket decals for it the price is exactly the same as normal profipack. That's why I'll pass on this one.

Greg

Do as I've done - persuade a fellow BMer to let you have the decals you need for the price of a pint. Chris (CCC) is a very nice man.
