Tiger331
I'm looking to start a 1:48 F-86F Sabre project soon......Looking for the best kit in 1:48 scale. Both the Academy and Hasegawa kits have good reviews although they are quite different...I know, for example, the Academy kit caters for the split fuselage with engine detail. Which kit is considered the best ?. Not too interested in cockpit detail since I will almost certainly use an aftermarket set. I'm more interested in overall accuracy etc. BTW, I'm not doing an RAF/RCAF example - probably opt for a FAP F-86F 1960s era. Julien
Hi, You will want the hasegawa F-86F-40 kit then. Did Academy do a F40? the one I have is an F30. Unlike most of europe the FAP got its sabres direct from the US or from USAFE (refurbished by FIAT) all were F-86F-35 brought up to F-86F-40 standard prior to delivery. You want to get a Japanese boxing as the FAP used the larger finless style of tank as used by the JASDF (not sure if these have a specific name) I have only seen these in the JASDF boxing's. If you need an F30 boxing then I would go academy. Nice kit, more options, cheaper and more available than the has one. Julien
Jennings Heilig
Other than your need for te extended F-40 wing, there is little to differentiate the Academy and Hasegawa kits. Most of the parts are virtally interchangeable between the two kits.

Yes, funny you should say that I was matching up parts from a Has F30 and and academy F30 to each other and they are very nearly interchangeable. Actually Pakistan also used a good number (over 90) of Canadair built Sabre Mk.6. These arrived in 1966 from Germany through Iran in one of those dodgy deals that happen so often with defence materials.
