AnonymousAA72
I'd normally put a link up to photo's, but I thought I'd post this on here. Its from the Gutersloh Spotters Site (A FANTASTIC resource!). A question to all 'Arrier 'Addicts..... Whats the store on the belly pylon, between the Adens on XZ993?? Julien
Bill, I am sure one of the harrier gurus said it was a cut down primat pod used for something? but my memory fails me there. Julien
Old_TimB (Broken account)
I'd guess at a Phimat pod. For IV Sqn jets, they were normally hung on an outboard pylon, with a Sidewinder on the opposite side and a recce pod on the centre-line. I vaguely require a trial that fitted a Phimat on the centreline, with the pointy nose removed to fit it between the nose and main leg. Julien I asked this on the HARSig site a few years ago - the rear end certainly looks like the rear end of a Phimat pod, but whats going on at the front end? Enzo the Magnificent
I asked this on the HARSig site a few years ago - the rear end certainly looks like the rear end of a Phimat pod, but whats going on at the front end? It's a Phimat pod. The front end is just a huge chunk of metal with a blunt fairing on it. This fit was only experimental. It was found that the airflow blew the chaff through the seal in the back hatch, which caused all sorts of electrical problems.

NG899
Yep, locally modded Phimat pod, confirmed by Dave Morgan from his pre-FW time on GR3s in RAFG. Don't you remember the article on this in Harrier SIG Briefings, c.2007 Bill? Cheers, Nick

rich2010
Forget about the pointy ended bit or Phimat rear end discussion, has anybody any clue what the double leather-ended appendages are for? (Second phot) LATO? (Leg assisted take-offs) Edited June 10, 2011 by rich2010
speedy
Nice one Speedy. Have you any photo's specifically of the "phimaty-thingey" pod. Sorry did look through the stash, but only the ones posted here already. You couldn't take photo's in those days (and you still can't) although the tempo's a lot less. Steve.
