dieselweasel
Frank, many thanks for posting these really great pics, I was at Leconfield when the Lightnings came from Binbrook, in fact it was my first posting in the RAF, those were the good days, especially when the 5 and 11 ground crews upset the SWO at Leconfield, boy did that guy have a temper, everyone used to hide when he was around. Thanks again Jim

keefr22
Absolutely lovely stuff again Frank, many thanks for keeping on posting these beauties! Favourites this time must be that superbly skanky Danish zipper, the G-91 & the beautiful 57FIS f-4E - but they're all just fantastic! What brilliant times they were....!! Any idea of what that French C-54(?) is? Are those AWACS type radomes above & below the fuselage, or are they some kind of mock up? New one on me if it is an 'awacs'... Anyway, wonderful pics, please keep them coming!! K

I can see the props are different but are the cowlings different too? Really cool pictures you have here. More please Chris Well done that man the extra side window behind the cockpit are the real give away I shot this airframe at what became the Polish Aviation Museum Cracow, Muzeum Lotnictwa Polskiego w Krakowie in 1978 I had to get written permission from the Polish Govt and an export licence to take the exposed film out of Poland. The docs didnt arrive so we went to see if they would let me shoot the aircraft - they said No in a very Warsaw Pact sort of way. Determined not to leave empty handed this was the only aircraft outside so my wife and others formed a screen while i "tied my laces", shot it, looked, up and there were two guards on a watchtower pointing bins and an AK47 at me . Crivvens! i hadn't noticed the Airborne Divison Barracks in the trees behind the Li-2! It was the quickest getaway on foot I have ever done - in Greece they call it "walking suspiciously" and stick you in the chokey for a couple of years. the guards probably had a good laugh . 2 days before we were due to leave Poland the permits came so we went back and I was shoved by the museum attendants upon to a Mig19 to get better shots of the MiG15, Yak17 and 23! Harry Lime
Frank, your pics are a treasure trove of inspiration! The only problem I have with them is that I've already got 5 projects on the bench and couldn't possibly start anymore as a result of being inspired by these pics. But DO NOT stop posting under any circumstances, or I'll have to adopt some drastic measures...
