spike7451
I wouldn't really worry about it too much as they get coated in grime & oil a lot of the time,I use signal red.
SaintsPhil
Thanks I'd assumed singal red but just thought I'd check before I buy some paint! Phil
Mike V
As varied as any other -21 equipment color tone when it comes to covers and plugs; certainly nothing to overthink.
DaveJL
I normally use Tamiya flat red. Looks identical to FOD covers i've seen in pictures and up close! Dave
Don McIntyre
IMHO just pick a red. On our P-3s, at times none of the fod covers were the same color. We had flexible vinyl for the upper engine intakes and plugs for the lower (oil cooler) intakes. They'd get all discolored from sunlight, oil, soot, dirt, you name it. SaintsPhil
Thanks gents, I'll give tamyia a go as I can get those easily nearby! Phil
ExRAF
You could paint the different covers in different reds, of course! (One pristine and one faded & battered)
Jennings Heilig
I'd go with a reddish red, as opposed to just a regular red, or a reddy red. But definitely in the red family. Or crimson. Or fire engine red. Or maybe just plain old red.
SaintsPhil
So the main point to take away would be they're red...
NG899
Not always! For example, on Harriers... on early GR1s, GR3s and SHARs which used the metal panel type FOD guards, they were painted roundel red BS381C:538 with black rubber seals. Later GR3s and FA2s used inflatable FOD shields which were grey, often with dayglo red markings on them. More recently, GR5s-GR9s have also had grey inflatable FOD guards, though some have had a lot of dayglo on them. To be safe Phil, do a check on say www.airliners.net for the type of a/c you're making and see what you can see on there. When using the keyword search say enter: harrier xz997 - and see what comes up. HTH, Nick
Julien
FOD and or exhaust covers vary in colour even on the same aircraft! Julien
SaintsPhil
They are early Harrier GR1 covers, I'd gone with a pic from a SHAR1 though as I couldn't find any of a GR1 with them fitted, I'd been told they were the same. Thanks guys, had a feeling it might be a can of worms! Phil
