Righty ho - bit more work done recently. First up the wing flaps have had guide tracks and housings applied - plastic card and some CA/Talc filler sanded down. Theres a bit more detailing to do - but as per my GR4 build this does make the area look bettererer!!

Cockpit detailing continues. I removed the monitor above the already modified 2 screen display, added the wire frame that holds it and the anti glare surround, then added detail to the rear of the 2 main displays. This will have a tangle of wiring that all feeds down through the new plastic card section Ive attached at the front. Also cockpit floor has had plinths added to raise the seats, and the rudder flooring for the pilot and the "not-pedals" foot stops and tracks for the RIO. The pilots IP coaming has had panels added to its insdie to match pics - which will need dome details added too.

Back seat consolse have been sanded back to remove the spurious details - so some plastic card detailing is next in there!! Finally the rear bulkhead has been faced with plastic card to neaten her up.

Hopefully I'll start getting paint on soon. The HB model is a lot of building before you can get your brushes out - fortunately I like building! :)

cheers

Righty ho - a bit of detailing ( lots of stretched sprue chopped into small bits to make knobs, and thin tiny squares of plastic card to make buttons), and the cockpit has had a lick of paint. Also the intake covers have been sprayed green and washed & weathered. These will need masking off once the fuselage is joined so need to be painted now.

Anyhow, the 'pit....

Looks good but, I'm afraid the Chief Technician in charge would have made the 'Liney' re-fit those intake blanks!

The securing lines have to be taut, so the blanks wouldn't blow off, or allow anything to enter the intake.

This is the same for all blanks and covers fitted after flight on any RAF aeroplane - the idea is to prevent any FOD (Foreign Object Debris) from entering the many openings on the airframe, or damage to the sensitive things that stick out of the A/C (aircraft).

Cheers, Brian

Hi Brian - good point - the flash actually makes them look at more crinky than they are, but I think you are probably right. Lets call it artistic licence!! Ive got to attach the scuring line yet anyway.

Fantastic attention to detail Jonners and great modelling. That cockpit is awesome - I sat for ages trying to work out how to replicate switches and knobs and gave up! On 1/32! And you managed it beautifully in 1/48!

Righty ho - painting time!! Xtracrlix light aircraft grey ( well USN Light gull gray actually) and Camo (Barley) grey applied with MSG nose, fin and taileron leading edges. UG bays and gear all sprayed too - and please note its very light grey NOT white ( I know what you lot are like!!)

As you can see when the weathers nice I airbrush outside - so much easier!

Next up will be a bit of weathering - as at the moment its pretty spotless.

We're getting there!!

Super work so far Jonners, the hobbyboss F3 looks very tempting right now.... until I remember how much effort you have put into making it look like an F3!

That's looking superb Jonners! Have you ever builtbthe Italeri F3? Just wondered how they compare.

hi - no.

After wrangling the GR version HB model into submission I got the F3. I suppose its become my "Murphys War". The sad thing is the HB Tornados are actually great kits, they fit well the detail is lovely etc etc. They are just spoiled by being , uhm, how shall I say, not accurate shape wise.

I'm sure they have sold well - but HB could do us all a favour and retool a new one - if they got the intakes right and the front fuselage section - then they would reap the rewards in all sorts of ways. Ah well, one can but dream.

Cheers for the comments

cheers Chaps. Im still not convinced about the nose mods, but...

Anyhow - landing gear now attached and here are some pics to show the sit. I shortended the nose wheel oleo by about 2mm to lower the nose sit, but she still looks a bit high ( same problem with the GR model BTW).

However - now I've added some paint to the 'burner' cans it starts to look less like a model ( though the unpainted pushed on wheels do bely the artifice somewhat!).

Eeathering next - now the paint has had 3 days to dry.

We are getting there. Jonners
