Hi Spike

I done these for my self for two tornado's i have one in 43 and the other in 111 sqd RAF.

I may have alter them for resale due to the RAF roundel copyright then all scales can be done.

Paul

Now I have heard everything! can they really copyright the roundel? I thought this was thrown out of court after a clothing company challenged it!

Can you not print different coloured circles to overlap then its not a roundel??

Makes you wonder.

I believe that it's the squadron badges that you have to watch in terms of copyright.

The MoD attempted to copyright the roundel, but Ben Sherman's lawyers were rather better than those engaged by the MoD (pointing out that the MoD should've gone for The Who some twenty-five years earlier) and won.

AIUI, the MoD has the copyright for squadron markings. Hasegawa have blissfully ignored this, I gather, and are pretty safe in doing so, since the MoD isn't going after them for doing so. You can imagine how that'd play out in the press as some lawyer earns hundreds of thousands taking out an unsuccessful case in Japan in a bid to gain rather less money than the laywer costs to hire...

I'm not sure how much cash this whole copyright thing brings in for the MoD, and suspect that all it does is, in fact, ensure that British AM companies are more cautios about RAF markings. I imagine that it helps push up the cost of Model Alliance and Xtradecal markings, though?

Hi

I was talking to Gary Madgewick the boss of Model Alliance at the Cosford Show and he said the MOD does have a copyright on the roundel only the red, white, and blue version.

Also British Aerospace has a copyright on its artwork.

Thats why you will notice the red circle is missing from certain sheets of all decal sheets unless the company have paid the MOD to use it,Gary did say they a figure of £5,000 was required on some sheets but i cannot confirm this.It would tend to ask Gary Madgewick seeing has he deals with MOD for his sheets.
