Jb65rams
A2Zee's 1/72 model of Bluebird. A nice little model. Until I started doing some research, I hadn't realised that the original had been recovered and is currently being restored, with the aim to return her to full running condition. More details can be found here. http://www.bluebirdproject.com/bbp/ John
Madmonk
Great model and one of my favourite vehicles. Touchwood models do a number of 1/43 scale K7 kits as well as a 1/12 version. As for the restored boat I doubt it will ever be run at full speed again, there is the possibility of running it on Coniston again but they need to get permission to remove the speed limit and then they say it will only run at about 100mph, will still be an awesome sight. thx6667
Nicer, I'd love to see a 1/24 kit of that!
Derbyeomanry
Nice build. Ive been watching the restoration of the boat with great interest. Ive got a paint chip off the salvaged boat - restorers were selling them off some time back to raise funds.
Madmonk
Jonathan, There is a 1/24 vacform kit of K7 as well as CN7 but I have to say that the Touchwood 1/43 kit is excellent. I will try and find the pics of my build and post them up.
Noel Smith
Many years ago a a company at Potters Bar named J&R Randall used to make plastic kits under the 'Merit' brand name. They actually kitted Bluebird some time in the 60's I think. As far as I can remember it was never reissued and the kits are as rare as hens teeth. Whether the company still exists and have the moulds in storage is anyone's guess. Some of the old Merit mould found their way to SMER in the Czech Republic. Rik
Merit was taken over by Peco, the model railway people. Two of their cars landed up with SMER, the Talbot Lago and the Alfa. I wonder what happened to the rest? I wish someone would find them and re release them because I have seen the originals offered at very high priced. marty_hopkirk
The Touchwood 1/43 kit is class - it even includes a hardwood base. Marty...
triumphfan
I have the 1/24 scale K7 produced by Speedline Models. Haven't built it yet though, still trying to come up with a method of making the flimsy vac-form body a bit more stiff. I have done Bluebird CN7, also a vac-form. That is a wonderful kit and I highly recommend it. Even includes a Mr Woppit bear in resin ! I quite fancy biulding K7 as a waterline model moored up on Coniston, would be great if I could modify a 1/24 figure to represent Donald Campbell.
