Star Wars E-11 Blaster

Recommended Posts

We have been invited to a fancy dress party for some friends 25th Wedding Anniversary so it gives me another excuse to dust down the Stormtrooper outfit!!!

Last time I wore it I had a blaster made from card, which I gave away to one of the little people at the end of the party, he had been asking to play with it all evening and so I let him take it home.

I promised myself that I would build another one from the plans I had so I set about it. That was 2 years ago and said blaster is still not built. It is however part build and this is now the KUTA I need to finish it.

To be fair I have quite a lot of it done, barrel, magazine and handle are built and painted. I have a resin stock and end cap I will use and I need to make a scope.

This is where it is at the moment.

I have just under 4 weeks!!!

Some of my GB builds may suffer.

Cheers,

Coin of phrase in our house for young children, I think he was about 6 but the look on his face when I gave him the blaster was worth it.

Very cool! Can't wait to see it completed.

Another project on the unending pile - upgrade my old Replica Gun that I bought back around 1980 with the intention of turning it into a stormtrooper blaster.

Very nice ! What materials did you use ?

I thought about using some plans for a blaster I had downloaded from the web a couple of years ago to build a airsoft sterling smg, but never really got started....

Thanks guys.

Giorgio, the barrel is a length of 40mm plastic pipe with the holes drilled using a downloaded pattern. The powerpack/magazine is made from plasticard and the handle is a resin cast from eBay.

The rest of the parts neede to finish it will be either resin parts or scratch built.

Looks suspiciously like a Sterling 9mm SMG!

Adam

That's because it is a Sterling SMG ! All the weapons used in Star Wars (the original movie) were based on real life firearms and "converted" in futuristic laser weapons. So we have the stormtrooper blasters made from the Sterling, Han Solo gun based on the Mauser 96, the imperial heavy blaster based on the MG15, another imperial weapon based on the vickers machine gun.

Thanks for the info on the materials Madmonk, I see theres a lot of scratchbuilding involved ! Looking forward to see the completed weapon !

If this is going to be 1:1 scale, you are breaking the law.

Under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, it is illegal to manufacture a replica firearm in the UK.

The act defines a Replica Imitation Firearm (RIF)as something that cannot be distinguished from a real firearm:

By someone who is not an expert.

Without close inspection.

Without atempting to load and fire it.

Exemtions to the act are:

Registered re-enactors.

Film and television production companies.

Registered Airsofters.

Crown Servants for Crown Purposes.

I doubt Mr Plod will realy care, but just be aware.

Interesting, as I was considering getting a replica Glock 9mm.

I consulted Plod and they told me so long as I didn't wave it around in public I was okay.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the warning, I will definately only use it at fancy dress parties and if I am in the full Stormtrooper outfit which will probably not be that often!

Build is coming on and will try and get some pics posted tonight.

It's all covered in the Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA), and caused a lot of problems for Airsofters when it was coming in. Under the regs you would have to be one of the aforementioned groups to be able to even purchase one in the UK, unless it was a stupid unrealistic colour. You could of course import one from overseas, but if C&E get hold of it, they'll probably just confiscate it unless you can prove you're one of those groups. If you bought one that's a nasty colour and repainted it, you'd also be commiting an offence in "manufacturing" a RIF... Realistic Immitation Firearm.

Unless it's changed since I last Airsofted?

Will put the rubber parts on the barrel and hopefully finish painting everything tonight.

Might have a second outing for my Stormtrooper outfit, escorting my daughter and her friends to their Year 11 Prom, embarrassing dad or what!

I was considering getting one of these:

http://www.modelguns-worldwide.com/yt_glock17.htm

The company claims that they are legal and can export to the UK (they are based in France I think). I wondered what UKBA and more importantly SO19 would make of it which is why, as I say, I consulted local Plod :bobby: .

Maybe I shan't risk it now.......... :S

The Modelguns products are legal to buy in the UK ONLY for members of re-enactment societies and amature or profesional drama companies, unless finished in the colours specified by the VCRA 2007.

If they use a propellant other than Co2 or air they are illigal and are classed as a prohibited weapon (5 years in nick).
