Foghorn Leghorn
I don't normally do civilan stuff (unless they're racing cars) but I wanted to do something different with the new Airfix QLT. I've done it as a civilian post war truck as I've got a diorama in mind that it will fit into. I redid the tilt/tarp with tamiya masking tape, removed some military kit and add some civil bits (number plates, lights etc). I also tried a slightly different weathering technique than usual as an experiment for future projects. I had a bit of a problem with the sit of the truck. It has a tail sagging look in real life but it looked worse when it was built up so I had to sand down the front tyres and add packing to the rears. I've already done the QLD ( http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=68527 ). I've enjoyed them so much I've gone and bought another kit, there's so many versions I could make that it could keep me going till I push up the daisies! It is so neat and clean !!!!! Again, STUNNING in such small scale !! Nige All that detail is there on the kit, nothing added other than a couple of headlights and the number plates. Sign writing? Simples. Xtradecal clear decal sheet and a laser printer. For some weird reason the decal sheet was incredibly thin (more so than usual) and the decal film just disappeared after a matt coat. I was stunned I tell ya, it's not down to my skills that's for sure.
Phil W
In the late forties Essex and a few other authorities used Bedford 'QLD's as fire engines with very little modification but towing a fire pump trailer.
Okdoky
It's more likely they purchased or kept the Bedford QL from the Army Fire Service http://www.armorama.com/modules.php?op=mod...topic_id=134932 There is even a kit in 1/72 by IBG models Would be good to see the Airfix and IBG kits side by side for direct comparison, especially since you get two for the price of one IBG kit. Okdoky
Looks like I found where Airfix took there inspiration for the QLT with the bike dangling from the back doors. Bedford QLT It even has the Bren gun on the tilt roof mount. Nige
Foghorn Leghorn
There is even a kit in 1/72 by IBG modelsWould be good to see the Airfix and IBG kits side by side for direct comparison, especially since you get two for the price of one IBG kit. Nige IBG do a good range of QLs including the Bofors tractor and (my favourite) the signals body. From what I can tell from pics the Airfix kit seems better (especially around the cab windows). I've even toyed with the idea of buying the Signals IBG and putting the body on the Airfix chassis but that wouldn't really make sense as the IBG chassis would then be surplus. Then again, a resin signals body conversion would be about the same as the IBG kit so i may as well buy the IBG kit kit and be done with it! Oh, decisions decisions ... Then there's the Reme bodies based on the QLT chassis which I'd really like to do (I'd love to track down more of these types of pics): Edited May 15, 2011 by neilscrim
