Killingholme
Hi all, I am soon to embark on a build of a 1/72 Academy B-29 as a RAF Boeing Washington B.1 as a gift to a relative who was aircrew on them. As far as I am aware no decals for the Washington are currently available so... Can I ask what size the RAF roundels and lettering was in each position? I'm afraid I don't know much about post-war RAF markings! Will
Harry Lime
Good morning. I'm sure someone will either confirm or deny this, but I believe you'll need the following sizes, Fuselage and lowerwing roundels 54", upperwing is 84" and the fin flash is w36"x h24", all in the post war Type D style. This info comes from Modeldecal set 47 which contains the right size decals, as does Xtradecal set X72041. As for serial number sizes, I can't help you there, but I seem to remember there was an issue of Flypast had an in depth look at the B-29 in RAF service with some outstanding contemporary photos. Regards, Mark.

kitnut617
Dutch Decals/Kit at War did a sheet ( I have one) but I've read they've ceased production now. But Aviation Megastore bought all their remaining stock and it appears they have a sheet. So be quick before someone else snaps it up --- http://www.aviationmegastore.com/raf-postw...0&art=71989 EDIT: OOPs! my mistake, wrong scale --- sorry but they did do a sheet in 1/72 Edited April 18, 2011 by kitnut617
Killingholme
Thanks to all those who have offered information. Anyone have information on code/ serial letter sizes specifically regarding Washingtons? If not, would the Washingtons have had the same rules as applied to the postwar bomber schemes on Lancasters? I have a fairly detailed article on this subject in the June 2008 issue of Model Aircraft Monthly- lots of copies of directives, official drawings and figures! cheers guys, Will
