Curtis Hawk and Tomahawk question?

Is a P-40A/B basically a Curtis Hawk fuselage, re-engined?

(I have a Revell Hawk and am considering using the engine parts on either the new Airfix P-40b or a Trumpeter P-40b so I do not have to so any major engraving!)

also, I am sure someone here (or somewhere on the net) posted pics of the new airfix P-40b sprues?? does anyone know where they are to be found?

Yes, Curtiss changed the powerplant to the Allison in-line. Cowl mounted .50 cal mg's were added. The initial P-40 did not include wing guns. later two .30 cals were added then four.

The H81 (“Longnose” P40) is, or started off as, a H75 (P36) re-engine with the V1710c …

However there is a lot of other minor changes between the production H75 (P36) and production H81 (“Longnose” P40)…

The Landing gear (bigger main wheels and wells, fully retractable tail wheel on H81)

Horizontal stab and elevators (bigger, on H81) (major error in Trumpeter P40 is it has the P36 horizontal stab and elevators)

Belly faring (deeper, longer on H81)

Main canopy rails and rear backlights differ

Rear fuselages’ panel lines (however very late production H75’s seem to change to what you see on production H81)

Other small details

It can be done but there a lot more to do then swap engines
