phat trev
Wanting to make an 'upto date' 1/72 Spanish Hornet using the Academy mouldings (after reading glowing reviews on here and other www sites) I am a bit confused over what type of F-18 the Spanish use? Academy do the F-18C which I guessed may be the current type (The Super Hornet looks only to be used by the US Navy and Marines? will the Spanish be given these?) Then I stumbled over the Academy F/A-18A with Spanish markings, being 'A' I thought this type may have been older? but then some info I have found show the Spanish still using 'A' Models? Confused.com (me) any helpers? cheers

Giorgio N
As Dave said, no C in the spanish air force but only A models, or now A+ models, that are updated A Hornets. Mind, telling an A+ from a C is quite difficult as externally they are pretty much the same. As the A box has the decals, go for it. If you have decals and ca only find F-18C boxes, you can still build a spanish hornet with little changes. As to the question "will the spanish ever use the super hornet", the answer is "unlikely". Spain is part of the eurofighter consortium so is buying Typhoons.
Dave Fleming
The Super Hornet looks only to be used by the US Navy and Marines? will the Spanish be given these? The Australians have them as well, to replace their F-111s

I know I've seen pics of at least two different schemes with Spanish markings.

Adam Maas
The Academy F-18A kit includes the correct A/B tails and extra aerials to match an A model while also providing the directions as to which C bumps to remove to get a correct A model. The kit can also be built as a C as the C tails were not removed and all the parts are there to do the C. The decals sheet is also superb, especially the Spanish Tigermeet option. Sadly Academy didn't offer the extra canopy and frame to do a B/D (the seat, pit and instrument panel are present)

phat trev
Lots of nice Spanish Hornet pics here:http://www.airfighters.com/photosearch.php...humbs&pag=1 what a good site! thanks for the infomation everyone. Yes it is a pity Academy do not include the 2 seat canopy, but then if they did no one would buy the D model!
