Jasonb13 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 As I understand it, all OOB means is not to use AfterMarket stuff. You can scratchbuild, you can use whatever paint you want, spare decals etc. I may be wrong, but I think that's the basic rule... J.
Peter Marshall Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 It's still your model - so if you wish to paint it differently that's fine - it's just purchased aftermarket accessories that are disallowed, scratch building is fine. Aftermarket decals are disallowed without clearing - for example Erwin's just using some custom codes with spare roundels so that's fine.
sweaty Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Hi im build, M-21 with D-21 drone out of the monogram kit, but i doesn't come with the markings for a M-21 can i use the spares from a italeri set please? All the best jamie
Peter Marshall Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I don't have a problem with that at all.
Kallisti Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Sorry if this point has been belaboured before but how much scratch building is considered too much and its no longer "out of the box"? I've been looking at this Lunar Module and its crying out for some work on the interior as there are windows and a pilot supplied but the inside is bare of any detail. So I was thinking about scratch building the interior control panels and various other components, and possibly adding an LED light inside to illuminate the interior. However, this is moving quite a bit away from "out of the box" so I thought I'd better check first before starting out...
Peter Marshall Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 I'm fine with scratch building and adding some lighting will be fine. As long as you aren't buying pre-made components designed for the kit it's not Aftermarket. So have fun and go for it !
Derbyeomanry Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Permission to come aboard with a 1/72 Revell Challenger MBT?
Peter Marshall Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Permission granted - though it's not really needed, all are welcome.....
Julien Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Can I join with a matchbox F-5A, but I want to use decals from microscale as the kit options are pants. Cheers Julien
Hash bash and splash Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Hi Newbie here I was thinking on joining in here if possible. Have a Short Empire Flying Boat that would do for this, but it has no decals. Is it OK with the Mods if I use some Aeroclub civvie spares that I have? If this post lands on an incorrect runway, please forgive any resultant carnage
Peter Marshall Posted April 30, 2011 Author Posted April 30, 2011 if there are no decals with the kit then using domed from the spares box will be fine
Vulcanicity Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 I will be doing the Hobbyboss Typhoon IB. Is it OK if I use decals from the spares box for the roundels and fin flash? The kit-supplied ones are all present but the colours are far too bright and just don't look right. I'll obviously use codes, serials, stencils, D-Day stripes etc from the box.
Peter Marshall Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 That will be fine, spares or printing your own is allowed, it's just buying new ones that's frowned upon. Look forward to seeing your entry.
rowmk9 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Would the mods mind if I started another OOB build? My SR-71 build has hit a snag and needs filler (which I need to order) so I'm not sure I'll be getting it finished in time. I was going to blast through a Tamiya Fw190A-8/R2 for the remaining 4 weeks if that is ok? Edited May 6, 2011 by rowmk9
rowmk9 Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 That would be fine Cheers! I just wanted to check beforehand. I will try and get the SR-71 done too, but its causing me much grief at the moment!
Mark Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Morning! Did I ever say I was in on this one? So many GBs going on I've forgotten which one's I said I'd enter. I only realised after it had finished that I'd said I'd be in on the Lancaster GB! Anyway, I am in (if it's not too late) and I'm off to the garage now to look for something... Back in a mo!
Peter Marshall Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 You might have mentioned being interested, but it's not mandatory. Feel free to join in....
Erwin Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I don't think I will be able to finish my two entries (32 nd scale Piper Cub and Willow floatplane) in time.
Peter Marshall Posted May 27, 2011 Author Posted May 27, 2011 Just a reminder - only a week left on this Group Build
