Hello.

I am looking for a 1/48 Vinten reconnaissance pod for a Herrick Harrier. I can only seem to find one in 1/72 from the aviation workshop. I believe paragon designs released one a while back but I am unable to find one anywhere.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Willing to pay of course. Urgently needed to complete a harrier GR-7 project!

Cheers

Dave

Dave,

I've got 1/48 Airfix recon pod from their Jaguar GR3 kit, but I don't know if it's a Vinten or not. I also don't know if the Vinten was on Harrier GR7/9's or not. I've only seen pictures of that new DJRP ( Digitial Joint Recon Pod ? ) under one.

Maybe someone who knows can say if Airfix one from the Jaguar kit is ok or not.

Regards,

Gerard

The Vinten GP1 pod was used on the GR7 on Operation Warden(Northern Iraq, 1993), this pod was a wet film system.

The DJRP was developed to update the recon capability to a digital method with real time datalink & down load features.

The Wet Film Vincon GP1 pod was retired in 2002.

Don't worry Dave, your first on the list for a pod.

Here are a few pics of the pod-

The front rotating head is a seperate part, so you can attach it deployed or stowed.

The front window could be filled or inserted with a small piece of clear plastic.

Thanks for the interest folks!,

Hopefully make the rubber mould tomorrow and then I can make some copys.

I've made a note of the interested people on this thread.

Just out of interest, how would you do the front sensor window?

Shaun.

Shaun,

If you made the front section hollow, we could cut a section of clear plastic, to fit into the opening.

Just a thought.

A small piece of clear sheet should do the same thing when inserted into the opening.

Or you could just cast the nose section in clear resin, mask the window, paint a black undercoat, paint the top coat then remove the mask from the window.

Wow! Talking about the GP1 pod - now that brings back memories. IIRC, though, the lens in the nose of the pod rotated vertically upwards for take-off and landing to stop it being scratched by crap thrown up by the nosewheel.

That's correct, that why I've made the nose section as a extra part.

Hi Shaun,

That looks very nice to me. The Harrier SIG would probably take at least 20 off you hands without any problem.

Do you also have a TERMA pod on your 'To Do' lists? If yes, I'm sure we'd go for a similar number of those!

Cheers for now, hope to hear from you soon.

Nick

P.S. Thanks to Stephen Prior for the heads-up!
