Hello

It's high time for me to start something in this GB.

I've seen that it is open from the end of WWII to the late 70's, so one of the French Air Force aircraft used during the 9 long years of this war in Indochina is relevant.

I chose to make one of the F6F of the Groupe de Chasse 1/6 "Corse". Actually GC Corse relinquished its Spitfire by the end of December 1950. At the time there were 20 Hellcat on strength to perform Close Air Support missions. The Hellcat period was a short one for GC Corse as from June 1951 the F8F Bearcat was starting to replace them.

The kit will be from Italeri, F6F-5N in dark blue

I've decided to close the canopy so thecockpit is strictly from the box and very simple.

ooh glad someone is doing a French bird. I did think of it myself but would have to have bought something for it. Anyway, thats besides the point, great initial work and I'm looking forward to seeing this one progress.

Are you going to weather it to look like a beaten up old warrior, or leave it nice and clean like its fresh from the valet? :P

Hi

Some new pictures

First I sanded arround the ejector holes and worked on the hollow lines. The problem with Italeri kits is that the lines are too shallow and could disapear with a strong sanding.

I put some plexiglass blocs to create the position lights.

Next I worked around the fuselage. Nothing really difficult.

Same action on the engine cowling.

I sanded flush the new position lights.

Now everything is glued and polished.

Patrick, very nice choice of subject, the hellcat looks great in overall sea blue and french markings !

One note of caution: the windscreen in the italeri kit fits really terribly ! I'd attach this before painting the fuselage, otherwise you'll likely need to touch it up
