Airfix's new Harrier GR9

I was thinking the opposite actually - the nosecone is moulded with the cockpit and the longer avionics bay intake would require a new fin.

I hope it's Airfix's revenge for Hasegawa/Revell offering GRs with Stencel seats!! :D

Same sprue though, and the separate nose owuld make the differing contuors of the + easier. Although looking recent releases, i suspect Airfix would rather cut a new mould than amend an existing one.

Airfix seem to be on a roll at the moment. I reckon they know exactly what they're doing. Airfix kits will take up a large proportion of my output this year.

The artwork has been uploaded now:

The three decal options are:

GR.9 ZD433, Harrier Detachment, Operation “Herrick”, Kandahar, Afghanistan, 2006;

GR.9 ZG506, Royal Air Force Cottesmore, December 15th, 2010 (the Dark Green/Dark Sea Grey/Light Aircraft Grey retirement scheme); and

GR.7 ZD404 “Lucy”, Harrier Detachment, Operation “Herrick”, Kandahar, Afghanistan, November 2006.

Roll on the release date!

Is it just me, or does it look like Airfix have just knocked the hasegawa line of Harrier II's into a cocked hat?! If this kit lives up to the hype, I'll be buying as many as I can lay my hands on. To get so many stores as well as an outstanding choice of colour schemes for a very reasonable £12.99 seems to be absolutely brilliant value for money. If this and the Valiant are the direction Airfix are heading, I'll be filling my boots with their stuff!

This looks fantastic! Nice to see the option to either sensored or uncensored versions off the afghan jet!

I feel it's my duty to support airfix by buying at least 3 of these, well that's how I'll get it past the girlfriend anyway!

Well done airfix, long may the revival continue!

The Hasegawa 1/72 kits never properly depicted an RAF Harrier II, they missed the RWR stuff at the back and on a general level no stores other than drop tanks, no separate airbrake even, and for the 100% LERX you had to rob the AV-8 kits.

No has asked this so I will.

Are Airfix going to sort out their decals?? I have nothing but praise for their plastic of late, and with the prices of far eastern kit these days (which I doubt will ever come down again!) more of my money will going to Airfix (and Revell).

But the last few releases I have bought I've not been impressed. Its not the markings themselves, its the paper stock.

Anyway, in regards to this release all I can say is wow. Even though this is not my scale I may well lower my self ;) for this one.

So Airfix have just destroyed the competition then?!! Good job I bought a few bits of resin to go with my Hase GR5 then.

I have the FRS.1 and the FA.2, which are really good for the money and this looks another step up again. I agree with Obi-Jiff - at least three need to be purchased, plus the decal sheets for the retirement schemes.
