MiG15 bis

There's obviously a lot of views on this and everyone so far is right. Thanks for the kind words everyone. By the way, I bought the kit partly on the strength of this review which, last time I looked, didn't have a single complaint about the kit...

:) I will continue your BMW analogy a little if I may, though...

If I bought a BMW and it's wheels fell off, I would be particularly unhappy, but, give or take a few silly errors that's not the problem with this model. It's more akin to buying a BMW and discovering that it didn't have an engine, it let the rain in coz it doesn't have a roof, it only just had room in it for my golf clubs and the driver has to stand outside and push. Oh, by the way, it only cost me a quid at Tesco's... Yup, it's a useless BMW, but it's a perfectly adequate shopping trolley.

The Airfix Mig is rubbish at being an accurate representation, fit for competitions and masses of AM add-ons. However, as a low cost, entry level kit? It looks more like a MiG15 than an Me109, it fits together without a single problem and it's good to be knocked out in a weekend, perhaps by an inexperienced modeller, or someone (like me) who's confidence needed a bit of a boost. On those terms, it's an excellent kit and hits all of the right spots. Horses for courses, innit?

By the way... BMW drivers? Hate em. What has four wheels and a willy? A BMW :innocent: Spawn of the devil ;)

hey i drive a BMW lol

while i agree its a night easy kit for newbies or non mental mig 15 fans, it just wouldnt look nice sat next to KP etc kits, or any that havent got the glaring errors.

i have built the 32nd trumpy one oop, apart from the cockpit, and i know it has little faults. but i could live with them, but if another company did the same, with glaring errors, you couldnt have both next to each other.

i know i slag the kit sooo bad cos of the major errors, but the price tag has nothing to do with how it was designed with the errors, would they have put the price up if they got it right? just a pity, as i have enough decals, and intention to do at least 30 i want, and this was a good chance for airfix to be the leader in 72nd mig 15.....but alas not.

i like looking at other peoples efforts on the mig15, inc the airfix one.

Well I think one of the issues here is that Airfix has tasked the mould tool designer to come up with a mould tool to produce a Mig 15.For some reason he has not done his research well enough or made a mistake along the way and designed a tool that does not accurately mould the Mig.There is (as I understand it) no critisism of the quality of the mouldings or the fit of the parts. The cost of six quid has nothing to do with the quality of the kit, simply that the bits of plastic are not the right shape. If the errors are as people here have stated I doubt that the tooling will be corrected for a long time,if at all-it will cost too much (speaking as a mould tool designer for 25 years).

As annoying as that may be to people who know a lot about this plane,it still looks like a Mig15 to most people.

Anyway crooked-well done you've done a great job!

I feel a Monty Python moment coming on...

"It's only a model..."

:-)

Why is it that nobody else has said "shh!" to you yet?

Anyway, good job on the MiG! Regardless of shape issues, looks like a lovely job done to me, and great choice of camouflage! :)

I thought 'Foi Ling' was the pilot who flew that MiG during the Korean war... :)
