Acky190
Hi all, There are a few decal sheets that I would like to get my hands on but am not too sure whether to stump up the £7-£10 for just 1 aircraft from the multitude included. An example would be the Airdecal sheet here. The only thing I want it for is the Beagle Basset decals as the kit ones I have are dreadful, the problem being that I don't build rotary wing and the remainder would be surplus. There are one or two other sheets I could mention but that can wait. Would anyone be interested in doing a decal sharing scheme type affair? I am not too sure on how the mechanics would work but for my part I would be happy to buy the decals myself and then post the remainder on to someone else that was interested and split the cost on delivery? Lets hear your thoughts on this fellas and maybe we could all save a few ££
Julien
Might be a winner. Julien
Paul
I thought about this the other day. For instance, I'd like to get a couple of model alliance sheets, but often for just one aircraft.
Work In Progress
Is this not exactly what the For Sale forums, and eBay are for? Buy the sheet, use what you want out of it, put the rest up for sale, nature will take its course.
SaintsPhil
I'd certainly be interested, aside from buying and selling there is always the option to trade part sheets. Don't forget about the decal bank though I've got a few part sheets from Colin, and I intend to send at least some of my surplus left overs his way, so hopefully they help someone else out. Buy the sheet, use what you want out of it, put the rest up for sale, nature will take its course. Not really, the idea here is to find somebody who is interested in sharing the sheet with you before you go ahead and buy it anyway. That way you are not stuck with a part used sheet that has no real re-sale value as it is part used and let's be honest we all have part used sheets where the remaining aircraft are really niche subjects. The idea of posting a particular sheet on here stating which particular markings you would want and offering the remaining markings to others really appeals to me, and who knows taking the sheet I linked to at the start of the thread as an example you may get 4 or 5 different people wanting markings from that sheet thus sharing the wealth, savings and negating the need to list the part used sheet in the for sale forums where you may get interest from the same 4-5 members but then who do you sell it to? Even if at the end of the day nobody wants the other markings and you don't buy them you aren't going to lose any money by having 90% of an expensive sheet sitting in a drawer! I too have had decals from Colin and indeed he has had a right stash from me, this is just a way to get exactly what you want without any waste or extra cash! And I am sure that if say 3 people decided to share a sheet and there were leftovers nobody would mind the remainder going to Col! Everyone's a winner! Well not the retailer but that's another story!!
davidelvy
Everyone's a winner! Well not the retailer but that's another story!! Actually, that may not be entirely true. There is no way I am going to pay £10 for a decal sheet to use on one kit. I will probably just go with what is in the box, or see if Colin at the Decalbank can help. If I thought I could share the cost with one or two others I would probably buy more sheets, so the net effect on sales may well be neutral. I will probably just go with what is in the box, or see if Colin at the Decalbank can help. If I thought I could share the cost with one or two others I would probably buy more sheets, so the net effect on sales may well be neutral. This whole thread was based on the fact that people didn't want to use the kit markings for a multitude of reasons i.e. the kit decals were unusable (OOR/unavailable from the manufacturer due to the age of the kit etc), they wanted to model a particular scheme not included within the kit due to modifications they had made changing Mk/role etc, or that they had indeed tried as I have in the case of the Beagle Basset to get some replacement decals from Colin but to no avail. As for the sales side of things, I would probably go for more sheets also if there was enough interest in sharing the sheets. Therefore there maybe for instance 5 sheets sold however these will be split between again for instance 6 modellers, therefore 6 happy modellers & 5 sheets sold, as opposed to 6 marginally happy modellers with the markings they wanted but some rather expensive leftovers sat on their shelves and for example 12 sheets sold. Overall winner the retailer, net effect for example would be a flood of somewhat expensive part used decal sheets on eBay/for sale section! At the end of the day each individual has their own view on things, I thought I would start this thread to see how people responded and on the whole it has been positive. Please don't feel obliged to participate but your input is most welcome in whatever shape or form that may be!
Macfire
It is a great idea. Not sure of the nuts and bolts of how a system could work but I would rather see my spare decals put to good use rather them decay in a box in the wardrobe. For example: Been chasing up DDK K7/14 (487 Sqn Venturas) and K7/17 (75 Sqn Wellington) with no luck. Have available Southern Expo 72-001 Spitfires K9953, ZP-O & R6626, XT-Y; Bf 109E-4, 'yellow 4' & Heinkel He 111H-4, 5J+GA.
Acky190
Right I will kick this off then with the Airdecal sheet I mentioned at the start here, I would like the Beagle markings from this sheet would anyone else be interested in sharing this with me? I will order them from H and will then take the required markings and post them on, whoever I share them with can then Paypal me their portion of the cost on receipt! I will lay it out below so it is a touch clearer. Decal sheet/Markings wanted/Markings remaining/Overall cost Airdecal ADTS7205/Basset Beagle/Royal flight Whirlwinds & Chipmunk/£8.68 + P&P Airdecla ADTS7204/DH Heron(Red & Royal blue)/Royal flight Puss & Gypsy Moths, Rapide/£8.68 + P&P If only one person wants to share then the costs should be halved, more people sharing more savings. It does sound odd that if only one other person wants to share that they get markings for 6 other aircraft for half the price but on the other end of the scale I have only paid half for my one set of markings! NZKIWI
I have quite a large collection of decal sheets bought over the years for their British subjects , many , such as the Model Art ones have foreign subjects on them which I will not use . I am not interested in increasing the size of someone else's decal bank , however it is a shame to see these go to waste . If anyone has specific need for a project I would be happy to give them what they need . Plenty of French schemes for example .
