Hello Vitor.

Thank you for your kind comments. You've done an excellent job on your model. For the record, my natural metal finished model was painted overall using Humbrol 56 Aluminium. Then, to break up the finish, I masked off (based on photographs) various parts of the aircraft and, used a combination of Humbrol Metal Cote - Polished Aluminium and,Humbrol 191 - Chrome silver. This was then coated with Humbrol acrylic matt varnish to seal it.I used Pro Modeller Dark Dirt wash to give the aircraft a dirty, weathered look before finally finishing off with a coat of Vallejo Acrylic Matt varnish. Decals were from the kit. I do not own an airbrush and, all of my models are painted the old fashioned way - with a brush & pot of paint!! However, I made an exception for the metal finish here & used acrylic spray colours.I am now building a 3rd TU-22. This one will be a "what if". I am building it as a long range patrol interceptor equipped with the R40T air to air missile. This one will be painted in a three tone blue/grey "experimental" camouflage scheme.

I know the kit has been criticised heavily for alleged inaccuracies and, fit of parts. However, I am not really concerned about accuracy. I am content to build straight from the box. The fit of the kit parts , in my view, not a major issue - certainly nothing that a little effort couldn't fix. Regardless of any criticism of the actual kit,it certainly LOOKS like a TU-22! I know the real aircraft had its share of problems but, it's certainly a beautiful machine and, I don't think it looks dated even now.

Lovely Blinders, very nicely finished. I was thinking of binning mine due to all the work needed to correct them, but since they look so good from the box I might well hang on to them. There's a Soviet/ Foreign Service GB coming up that you might be interested in if you fancy building a fourth Blinder in non Soviet colours :)

Very nice albeback, just about my favourite jet, you've done a great job on a model that needs an awful lot of work. I know you're not bothered about accuracy but for anyone wanting to make a truly accurate Blinder, (the worst problems, are that the fuselage is nearly 2 inches too short and the engines are for some reason stuck out on pylons and the wrong way round!), takes a lot of time and scratchbuilding, I know coz I'm in the middle of thoroughly updating one of these beasts for a Russian VVS site magazine, fixing every known error which is a daunting task but really a labour of love for me, I'll be posting the build soon.

Wish someone, Amodel or Trumpy would do an accurate one..

But hey they look fantastic, well done on them..

Glad you like them General. :D . Regardless of the kit's faults, it's certainly a beautiful looking aircraft. I've never been bothered about accuracy generally. I'm content to build out of the box. To be honest, I don't know how the manufacturer made the errors - possibly insufficient or inaccurate information was used? I agree it would be nice to see the model given the Trumpeter treatment. Best of luck in your own TU-22 project. Look forward to seeing it. I'm now working on a 3rd TU-22 by the way. This one will be a "what if". A long range patrol interceptor. OK - maybe a bit implausible ( a bit??) :yikes: but, what the hell!!. Construction is almost complete & I'll be sure to post pictures here.

Good work I like to two contrasting finishes, the metallic is very nicely done.

Albeback, cheers, I think the main problem with the kit was that it was made at a time when there wasn't much info and data available, (no internet, walkrounds or Google!), and most of the info would have just come from photos available at the time, a lot of it from intercepting NATO jets. The 'what-If' interceptor idea isn't so far out as there were projects investigated by Tupolev for such a version, kind of like a huge TU-128 Fiddler which itself is a big aeroplane!. Ken Duffey did one some time ago and it does look cool. Look forward to seeing it.... :thumbsup2:

Hi General. Here's a wee taster!! I just could NOT resist seeing how it would look fully loaded!! :yikes: I temporarily tacked the R40T missiles in place with blu tack! I don't know if you have cable/satellite tv but, if you do, you may have come across a programme called "Dogfights of the Future". One scenario featured an upgraded B1-B ( Designated B1-R) equipped with a whopping load of 24 AMRAAMs. For those not familiar with the scenario it was acting as a back up/stand off interceptor on support of a flight of F-22 Raptors. Now, that WOULD be a spectacular model!!

Thanks. Appreciate the comment. I normally paint all my models the old fashioned way - with a brush & pot of paint!! This is usually a problem with metallics!! I used good old Humbrol Acrylic rattle cans!! Basic colour was 191 Chrome Silver then, hours of masking followed by Aluminium 56 & finally Polished Aluminium. I wasn't really striving for accuracy - just to get a general appearance of the contrasting metal panelling. I worked from photographs. If you haven't got the book & you are interested in the type, I can thoroughly recommend Tupolev TU-22 Blinder by Sergey Burdin & Alan E Dawes

Funny you should mention that!! I have attached pictures of TU-22 no 3 to another of my replies on this page. I have a 4th kit and, I had in mind either an East German or Polish Air Force machine . The kit I have is the version with the huge AS-4 missile. It will be a maritime patrol/anti shipping version & I have in mind a similar 3 tone grey/green overall camouflage scheme . I'll keep my eye open for the article you mention for other ideas.. Regardless of the kit inaccuracy, it unquestionably LOOKS like a Blinder!! In fairness to the kit manufacturers, they obviously didn't have access to full detailed information & I'll bet they never got a chance to climb all over a REAL one! I think they made the best of what they had. I certainly don't see another TU-22 coming along any time soon.

I can live with a kit's inaccuracies. They don't really bother me. All I want is something that looks good when I'm finished.
