AnonymousAA72
Didn't want to hi-jack Drewe's thread on his F4 any more than I have already, so thought it best to start a new one... But here we are with the paint peeling....... :shithappens:
Andrew
Hi Bill, Pity about the peel, I'm sure you'll get things back into line in very short order. You've probably seen a heap more real Hunters than me (I'm pretty much limited to vague recollections of visiting Singaporean Hunters back in the late '70s), but does the Revell kit's nose seem a bit .... well, fat? When I get home this evening (thank heavens for Friday) I'll dig my built (note I didn't say finished) kits out and have a look. Just pondering...... Best of luck with the rest of your build. Look forward to the rest of painting and markings. Andrew
Guest Drewe
That's a real shame Bill, strip and re-start? (The model, not you!). I'm telling yah, acrylics are disasters waiting to happen! I once did pull up about two square millimetres of Gunze Mr Color when I tore some ordinary masking tape off the model too quickly. Was very traumatic! Was very traumatic! Yeah I think so... I'd painted the Green on free-hand and was really quite pleased with the result. I really think that I cleaned the plastic alright - so really dunno what went wrong! That said and thinking back - I think I had problems when I painted one of my 1/48th Meteors? Ah well!!!! For my money the nose on the Revell kit is just about spot on - its probably the angle of the camera lens causing a bit of distortion..
Dave Fleming
Did you sand the surface? (1200 or higher?) I've found that some acrylics don't key to smooth, un scuffed, plastic. Mr kit was particularly bad

Dave Fleming
The other questions are: did you use a primer? Is that where you held it whilst painting the back end? Sorry to forensically analyse your problem, but trying to avoid the same thing happening now I use these more!

No primer....and yes it could well be were I held it - maybe I need a pair of gloves.....hmmm
Dave Fleming
Could be it - acrylics don't like the oils in fingerprints. I had an Albatros where the sworls were visible even although the paint was untouched
AnonymousER99
Bill If I may ask...what acrylics are you using?? I have that issue BAD with XTRACRYLICS but not with Gunze. Of course I am a Gunze Laquer snob so I rarely use acrylics anyway Mike
Oliver
Hmm, i've never had a problem with xtracrylics before, including things like no primer, oily fingers and masking. Maybe there was still a little mold release on the kit parts?

It is generally very fragile - chips easily if you're not careful when handling...however thats so IF its thinned, I've since tried to apply it "thicker" and it seems to stick better....hmmmm
