Pegasus Spitfire 22

I pulled this out of the loft and have started work on it. Two fuselage halves, wings and the tail (which needed to be thinned down a lot). My son watched me rubbing down the filler on the joins (that is every joint done so far) and commented "I didn't know Stevie Wonder designed kits". I think this could be a tube of filler model, but I will persevere.

Hmm....... I looked at the Pegasus one to maybe do a threesome but I decided to leave it on the swap and sell table even though I was offered money to take it away!

Which one? I have three Pegasus Mk22s. Two early issues, one in clear plastic the other in white and the later boxed kit which replaced them. I built that about 14 or 15 years ago and as I recall, the model is now retired, it actually came out passably well, although the canopy was a bit high it seemed.

I've still got one of these filed away. I tried to sell it on the local auction site recently & got no response. I've decided to use the bits on other build now, wings to build a Spitfire 21 & maybe the rear fuselage on a Mk XVI. Mine is appears to be a little different to the one I saw reviewed on Modelling Madness, there is no mention of the tail fin as a seperate part moulded in clear plastic. I was never too happy with the shape of it. I hope your build goes OK, pics would be good.

Steve.

Again, which one? I have 3 - a really early one in white that looks to be very similar in style to a Merlin attrocity, another, more refined moulding in grey in a clear bag, and a third boxed example, even more refined and with white metal bits. Plus I've one or two of the Pegasus Seafire FR47s.

The first will stay in a box until I feel brave or foolish enough to tackle it. The others may get built but I suspect I'll be replacing some of the smaller parts with resin examples.

I quite enjoy building the Pegasus kits. The plastic thick but it's soft and quite workable. I've had some quite presentable results too. The MB5 is a cracking little kit, as is the Spiteful, although it does need some replacement bits.

This is the grey bagged one, though I do have the whitemetal set from the boxed one to add to it (amazing what gets found in boxes under tables at model shows). I like Pegasus, but it is annoying when you flatten each side of the fuselage to get a good join and they don't match in cross section. But I will persevere with it.

I had both the Seafire 47 and their Spit 22. IIRC the Spitfire was molded in white plastic and the Seafire was molded in a very soft Gray plastic. I had to do so much filling and sanding on the wingroots of the Seafire 47, that before I realized it, I probably had the first ever gull wing Seafire…
