1/32 Hasegawa Me-163B Komet

Recommended Posts

I'm just having a bit of fun. Something simple to practice on and the Hasegawa Komet seemed to fit the bill nicely. The only aftermarket bits needed were a CMK resin cockpit and Eagle Strike decals.

So far I've assembled the fuselage and wings and scribed in some details.

Assembled the dolly and wheels, added a few bits from styrene and modified the mountings so that it can be fitted after the fuselage is joined and painted.

Begun work on assembling the beautiful CMK resin cockpit.

Hopefully have this kit in the paintshop by next weekend and finished in a couple of weeks. Which is warp speed for me.

Thanks for stopping in for a look.

A little more progress. Worked a bit to get the resin CMK cockpit to sit in the fuselage properly. Had to use a styrene spar and pin to hold it in position. I didn't use the sets photoetched side panels but made styrene replacements for them. I'm really impressed with the detail on the resin cockpit. I hope I can do it justice once the paint goes on.

Here is where it's at right now.

Steve--Thanks, I'm leaning towards doing yellow 11 in 81/83 over 76. (I'd better start practicing my mottles.)

Kev-- Your Komet build got me to thinking of doing one myself. Just enough time at my build speed to get it ready for Model Expo ;)

Ian, Metallicus & Kagemusha-- Thanks for the encouragement and kind comments.

Nice work Dan! I really wish I'd put more effort into my Komet build now. Perhaps I'll pick up another one.

Kev

I had the same thoughts about mine, but as it was a Mojo restoration project I don't feel too bad ;)

Incidentally, there's a new Komet coming from Hasegawa shortly, and it's supposed to be a bit of a re-tool, IIRC. I'll be interested to see how it compares to the old one :)

Ah, cool! I'd love to see it there. I'm hoping to get my 262 done by then too.

Really? I hadn't heard that before. I know Dragon have one on the books, and I'm hoping we'll see that before too long.

Regarding Spates 'Tomato', story goes his ground crew thought it would a good idea to make his aircraft stand out (ala Richthofens Circus) However when he saw it as he was off on his next mission he was not very pleased!! His ground crew were ordered to repaint asap. So, there you go, the 'Tomato' only lasted one mission.

Thought you might be interested.

Slow progress. Concentrating on getting the basic assembly nice, smooth and square. I'd like to enter this one in competition at Model Expo.

Added a few belly details, tow hook and fuel dump vent.

I have spent a bit of time getting a good smooth wing joint and tidying up the scribing. Just a little bit to go before I can prime this baby.

A big thank you for all the positive feedback.

Work In Progress-- Point taken about over weathering. I do like to tart up paint jobs.

IanW & Oddball--Thank you for your comments.

After a day filled with the shakes-ies, drops-ies, knock over-ies and smug everything in sight-ies I have managed to get the blue on.

Now it's just a matter of leaving the model alone to cure a bit before I tackle the mottles. Easier said than done as I'm dying to get on with it.

I hope you like her with a bit of paint.

Iain-- Thanks very much. Yep, the Komet is one of my all time favourite kits.

Must keep pushing on.

Haven't made any stuff ups yet. Started to run some very thin Paynes Grey oil paint into the panel lines. But I found that I didn't need as much as I usually do because the water color that I used to check the scribing and rivets held up very well after painting.

Slow progress;

Started to paint up the landing trolly.

Lots and lots of pin washes with oil paints to panel lines and started the chipping/scratching.

Happy now that most of the decals are done and I can start to do the detail painting. That's the part I really like to do.

Carts--Thank you!

Very nice work - I built this myself to get my mojo back last year, and really enjoyed it. I did mine almost OOB though, just with some Etch that I found in the box. :)
