Dragon P51D

Okay, bit late in sorting this out, but I wanted it off the bench before I threw myself into the Jaguar group build.

Much has been written about the Dragon P51, and if you believed all you read on it, you'd think it was a right pig to build. Not the case, there were some things which made you put in a bit extra effort, and produced results. I know there are accuracy problems with it, but in the end it looks like a Mustang!

I messed up the NMF, mainly down to complacency thinking I'd got the surfaces prepared. When the Alclad went on, it showed up the plastic flow marks from the mould. I stripped it back to re paint, but had run out of Alclad. In the end, I raided Halfords and used Vauxhall Platinum Silver from a rattle can - which came out ok.

The decals were kindly supplied by that sound fellow Perry (ta matey!) and all I have to do is add the clamshell doors, landing light and sort out the serial numbers for the tail.

In all, I'm happy with it.....now where did I put that Jaguar?

Hi Andy, thats looking a beautiful piece of work mate, well done!

I've never done a NMF before, what tips have you got for putting the decals down on it and, can they be sealed with anything without losing the NMF??

p.s., some more pix ? Pleeeeeease???

Andy, did i send the serial numbers? If not, let me know and you can have them.

I'll see what I can do regarding more pics...I'm stuck using a cameraphone as I can't, for the life of me, find my charger for the digital camera.

And thanks for the kind comment Perry. If it hadn't been for you, it would have been lobbed back in the box after I messed up the NMF, so your words of encouragement spurred me on. And while you ask, there were no serial among the decals you sent me for 'Ridge Runner' but if you've got them, I'd like to know ;)

Got a bit of a repair to do to it, for one on the leading edges by the wing root cracked open due to my ham fisted handling of it, but nowt that can't be fixed. The other faux pas I did with the kit was by painting the anti glare panel a tad too deep down the fuselage sides. But like I said, looks ok to me.

Regards

Andy
