my 1/32 HAWK

Mainly stuff said while I was away judging and my wife was on the stand - she has a very poor view of the modelling fraternity now...

I think funniest was a guy getting her attention (she was trying to do her Playgroup accounts) to point out that all the web builds/blogs were wrong and it wasn't £18.99 - she looked up and said it was. Answer - no it isn't. Her answer - would you like to see the receipt?

Then pairs of modellers where you'd get one saying to the other 'Oh well, of course this is wrong, that's wrong, the decals are wrong, the seats are appalling, that's only a test shot of course - production one's are grey - etc, etc...

FFS - it's a 1:32 Hawk - it's a great build - it looks pretty accurate (to my eyes so far - just a few minor tweaks) - and is an amazing price.

What more do people want? Or do they just want to give themselves some self worth by believing they are such an expert that if they tooled it it would be perfect???

It's a MODEL :)

Sorry - I love these forums - and think the majority of modelling folk I've ever met have been brilliant - but there is a minority that seem to appear out of the woodwork at shows that really need a life!

Sorry - rant mode off ;)

Iain

You are so right Iain. One of the reasons I don't go to Telford any more, but has anyone had what I had.

At Perth one year, I was asked to do a bit of judging. To my surprise and pain, a fellow club member whom I had time for and who had won a few classes in the past, stated that because I had spent 40 odd years in - on - and around aeroplanes, he was objecting to me judging,:- "because you know too much"

Still Effin' rankles.

Ha! I think I was stood behind that idiot when he was talking to your wife! I walked off shaking my head. I should have chipped in and said "well, I just paid £18.99..." Some people are just bottoms.

The flap in not entirely white, it has a red area at the top outer end

As I thought............excellent photo's Pete - illustrates the demarkation nicely - and shows how the actuator splits too - thanks!

Ok so leave white, and then its a job for a bit of Mr Tamiya masking tape, then spray red - save all that tricky decal fettling....

Mark, you're a naughty man - stop giving the MoD ideas  :

Scene, Whitehall March 2011,

Neddy 1: Uncle Dave and Dr Fox says we have to cut more from the RAF.

Neddy 2: We've already culled most of the fast jet fleet, Nimrod, groundcrew and trainee pilots; there's nothing else.

Neddy 1: What about the Red Arrows and Battle of Britain Flight?

Neddy 2: Can't do that, every time it's mentioned there's uproar from the general public about losing the only parts of the RAF they're really aware of. Since it's a real vote loser the politicians will veto it.

Neddy 1: How about if we amalgamate the two? Paint a Spitfire, Hurricane and the Lancaster in red and call it the Battle of Britain Red Arrows Memorial Flight. There'll still be nine members to wave at the crowds (7 in the Lanc and 1 each for the fighters) and we might even be able to get someone like Vodafone or Coca Cola to sponsor it*. That way it won't cost us any money and the public will think they're both going strong. I saw a mock up on one of those Interweb thingys my son visits so we can then say it wasn't our idea if it all goes wrong.

Neddy 2: Good thinking! Let's get the Chief of the Air Staff in...

* other red branded telecomm and soft drinks companies are available.

Now back to our normal programming - that's a great looking Hawk and Arrows set!

well the worry is over shes not a tail sitter!!

i forgot to add any nose weight at all, and began to worry she may be a tail sitter, i was hoping that the white metal undercart (thanks John) would help but i needn't have worried as she doesn't need weight at all, i haven't got the sears in or canopy on and se is far from a tail sitter!

anyway ill try and get her done today

Hi all

Having read both this thread and Ian's as well as being mightily impressed I've been inspired to go out and purchase myself a 1:32 Hawk. Can anyone please tell me roughly what is availabe in aftermarket goodies for this kit?

TIA

Pete

Ok guys,

I seem to have enough info now so am going to take the plunge and cut the 1/32 Revell Hawk's wings shortly to drop the flaps.

It seems a fairly straight forward problem but the slightest error would cause ruin.

I suppose once you have done it once repeating it should be easy or not as the case may be.

Anyway all your posts have given me confidence to give it a try, so thanks for that.

If it doesn't work out I can always buy another kit.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.
