Guest Drewe
Started modifying this RoG Hunter F.6 last night. Wings are done and tail pipe has been modified to small bore. The rest should be plain sailing. Plan is to be the 118sqdn machine with PRU blue unders. Now before everyone screams, I know there is no solid evidence for the PRU blue but the decal sheet includes it and it's simply too interesting to resist! Well, if there's no solid evidence for the PRU blue, then there's no solid evidence against!! I think that will look really cool - looking forward to seeing it done! Wing mods look really good - any pics of yer jetpipe!!! Keef

Several eye witnesses and some very compelling photos are enough for me!!
AnonymousAA72
Did 118 Sqn fly F.5's? Should that not be F.4? (And Theres a drawing of WT748 /'S" with PRU Blue lowers in the Squadron Signal book....)

And it's a double bonus. . as an F.4 I have no NACA intakes or anything like that to worry about!

I think I've seen a photo (albeit in B&W) which confirms the PRU Blue undersurfaces (in the only way a B&W photo can!!) .....must see if I can dig it out.... Guest Drewe
And here's why I love, respectively, RoG's Hunter aand Gunze Mr Color paints. . . less than 48 hours since removing the kit from the box, and even with the back-dating to an F.4 it's ready for glossing and decals! Gotta love that. . . . p.s. spot the deliberate mistake! Edited November 7, 2007 by Drewe
keefr22
p.s. spot the deliberate mistake! have you reversed the grey & green - cos that's my favourite deliberate mistake!! That finish looks really nice - do the Mr Color paints have the ''correct'' British colours (& names), or do you need to work out equivalents from a colour chart or somesuch? And what do you thin them with? I feel another Telford purchase coming on.....!!! The build is looking really good! Guest Drewe
All the decals from the Xtradecal sheet added, later on I'll use the kit sheet for all the stencils. Pretty happy so far. . . .

Guest Drewe
Sabrinas? Nope, present and correct on F.4's. Much subtler than that. . I thought the Hunter boffins would pick me up for it straight off the bat so decided to highlight the fact that I already realise my mistake. . . AnonymousAA72
p.s. spot the deliberate mistake! Well.....I studied the photo's for ages yesterday and could see nothing.....then at 4AM this morning was wide awake and things were spinning around my head (as they can only do at 4AM) and like a bolt out of the (PRU) blue - I thought..."PYLON'S!! I bet Drewe hasn't filled the holes!!! 'cos we all know that F4's wings weren't plumbed for outer pylons..."

Nope, the outers have been filled, it's just that the Mr Color shows flaws up like a coat of silver would it's so thin! I tinkered with re-filling then realised that there's be roundels over it anyway so left it. Cut-out flaps on an F.4!!! Good heavens man, what were you thinking? See? Some people get it. And some people call themselves Hunter boffins and let it slip right by!

AnonymousAA72
A fact I conceded in the post immediately following it! ..which is why I never said anything! Col, beat me to it and you acknowledged it, before I'd even noticed it!! (AND to be honest even when it was pointed out I didn't really think it was a mistake as the kit's flaps are indented - to allow for the future release of the FGA9, so you didn't fill the indentation........actually I'm pretty sure I didn't "correct" that mistake on my GA.11 ) Anyway........I have indeed been playing with bits of plastic, in the shape of a Hunters.....I started a "speed-build" of my own on Monday - an FGA9 as I thought I'd better use up one of the QB tail-pipe set I piled on the stash. Went together fine - slapped the Xtracrylic DSG and Dark Green on last night, added a coat or two of Johnson's..all nice & glossy, masked & ready for the undersurfaces with Maskol tape..re-positioned it AND...bugger, tits & bum's...the paint PEELED off spectacularly!! So much for my speed build!!!! Edited November 8, 2007 by Bill Clark

So much for my speed build!!!! What is this "Paint peeling" you talk of? Oh, wait a minute, I use Gunze Mr Color, But I think I recall what paint peeling was! I'm toying with another FGA.9 shortly, but I'm in a quandary. . . part of me really wants to do an Indian target tug in MSG/DG uppers with aluminium lowers, and part wants to do one of the Brawdy/Chivenor TWU aircraft. . I don't know what it is about those planes, but they always look a bit beefier and heavyweight than other FGA.9's to me. . .
