Col.
Came home from primary school and seen it on John Craven's Newsround. Can still recall the image on our brown lump of a Grundig TV that had a coin-operated meter bolted to the back to take 50 pence coins as part of a rental agreement from Radio Rentals. Strange how things stick in the mind. Watching the explosion seemed surreal and it wasn't until later it sank in that seven astronauts had died. Jabba
I was walking across our hangar at Wyton when one of the lads mentioned it. I am sure it was getting close to shift hand over, he was coming on shift and I had not heard any news at all that day. Very strange that as we had a telly in our crewroom, but I can't remember anyone mentioning the incident before that time.

wyverns4
RAF Leeming VASS. Just walked into my room after dinner and switched on the goggle-box to see another spaceshuttle launch (yawwn) and then BANG. Then my mate next door knocked and asked if I´d just seen what he had seen... Christian the Married
AndyC
Sat on a construction site in Central London - somebody mentioned it but we had no way of hearing/seeing exactly what had happened. Shocking to see when I got home that evening. I don't think it will be seared into the memory as much as the airliners and the towers on 9/11 but it comes pretty close...
