Spitfire Group Build

With all the positive talk about the new Airfix Spitfire XII at the moment it seems there's a lot of Britmodellers with at least one Spitfire in the stash. Well how about actually building one!?

There was a vast array of Spitfire's produced so I don't think it'll be a boring Group Build. I suggest we allow the Seafire too.

So, who's up for a Spitfire Group Build?

I don't know much about the Spiteful and Seafang. How closely are they related to the Spitfire?

Very closely ! Put it simply, they are an evolution of the spitfire design with a totally new wing of very different design.

No problem in taking part in a Spitfire GB ! I have at least a dozen various spit/seafire of different marks in the stash.

I'm don't know, but I believe that the Spiteful was supposed to solve some of the Spitfires supposed Mach-number problems, by adding a new, laminar flow wing. In the end it became almost a complete new aircraft, but still shared a lot with the late model Spitfires.

In my opinion, most GB's gain from opening up to more diversity. A Spitfire GB would probably still be dominated by pure breed Spits, even if the some oddities like the Spiteful would be allowed. :)

I'll be in in this one.

We can either have a full blown GB or a Single Type GB the later would limited to three months. A full GB could be longer if people want to build larger scales, carry out modifications to kits or super detail.

How soon could we have a single type GB Mish?

like a mk 22/24 fuselage with a new wing, as stated.

The wing was later used on the Supermarine Attacker.

The Spiteful tail was later used on the Spit 22/24 and Seafire46/47.

Trumpeter are planing a Spiteful and Seafang, discussion here, and some pics. Worth a read.

our esteemed leader did the Falcon vacform as a Seafang here

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30701 well worth a read for vacform tips.

a kit which is still available from modelhobbies in NZ, and supposed to be a lot better than the Silver Cloud Ltd run kit.

There are kits in 1/72, but I'm not up on them,

I build Spitfires on a regular basis. My original intention was to do a very controversial built for this STGB. An FR XIVe in the possibly apocryphal low-level recce scheme... a Spitfire XII in the night bomber scheme... a pink recce Spitfire...

But A2Zee have just released an excellent decal sheet for SAAF Spitfires, so that's what I'll be doing.

Just a very silly thought ...but as this is Britmodeller..and there seems to be a large number of people doing a Spitfire of some description all the time, with all the discussions about various marks, colours etc . plus builds and finished projects .......could there not be a subforum in Aircraft modelling just for Spitfires...?????????

Regards Trevor .... :D

Scanning through this month Flypast I've just seen this year celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Spitfire's first flight on 5th March 1936. Surely this is a momentous enough occasion to squeeze in a Group Build?

Or perhaps as suggested we could have a separate forum opened for Spitfire builds from 5th March to celebrate this anniversary?
