jaw
I have been following with interest the thread on the best fighter, and it set me thinking on what do BMers think was the best looking military aircaft of all time. For my money, the Tempest, Sea Fury, Sea Hawk and Hunter must be in the running but it would interesting to hear what others think. Over to you! Paul
For me it would have to be the Hunter first, then the SR-71 a close second

F111Fan
The Vulcan is a strong candidate for me, and I know this will draw a LOT of flak, but I find the F-22 rather beautiful as well

-Neu-
Hawker Hunter FGA9 Call me silly, but I actually really like the straight leading edge F.4 better. The Dogtooth kinda ruins it for me.
davidelvy
Same answer as I gave in the Greatest Fighter post. SPITFIRE. But I also like some of the other suggestions. I was pleased to see the Sea Hawk get a mention. It has to be the prettiest jet aircraft ever. I also find the A10 quite appealing due to the simplicity of its shape. The same goes for the EF Typhoon. The Phantom fails on this score as it is a bit of a dogs dinner shapewise. The same goes for the Corsair (F4U). I like it, but visually it's all over the place with its thick, bent wings. mis-matched tailplane and fin and tail wheel on stilts.
Enzo the Magnificent
Has to be the Hawker Hunter or the Supermarine Spitfire. Both of which are favourites of mine. But I'm not sure that a military aircraft should look good. They should look ugly and brutal. F-4, Harrier, F4U, F6F, A-7, A-10...

Then form cannot follow function. On that premise the Spitfire should have been a very poor fighter and easily outclassed by the Morane-Saulnier MS 406. I know what you mean, but in the natural world some of the deadliest creatures are also the most beautiful.

sloegin57
.......... but in the natural world some of the deadliest creatures are also the most beautiful. Agreed. Which means that there can be only One. The Handley-Page Victor. Sleek, Beautiful and still being called "Futeristic" on the day it went out of service. upnorth
I have to admit that as modern jets go, I find the Aero L-39 Albatros quite a lovely design. Very clean and simple; I don't think I've seen it from an angle where it didn't look graceful and eye-pleasing: I'm also quite fond of the CASA 295 transport. I personally think it looks nicer from most angles than C-27 Spartan that it competes with for customers:
