Hasegawa F-4E Phantom 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hi Phil,

Seeing as it s a 512thTFS Rhino, go for some PGMs, maybe 4 Mavericks, some GBU-10's / 12's, something along those lines. Are you using AirDoc decals, for it? (If it was a 526th, they were an air superiority squadron)

I'm not sure whether to do mine (which I looked at last week!) as Nightstalker in wraparound SEA, or a Euro1 from the 86th

HTH, Joel

I know nothing about the proper load to put on, but I always think that loads and loads of Mk82's looks very cool on a Toom.

Love the colours, they look spot on, all freehanded? You got a lovely neat edge if it is!

Jen.

Thanks peeps,

I have to agree with you Jen, there's something about a Toom with MK82's on a TER.

It's all free hand, I start with the lightest colours first, then when all done I go back to the and tidy up all the edges with the tan again.

 very nice Phil.

I just looked few a couple of Phantom books and a common fit in the 80's for Ramstein F4's was 3 x Sparrow 1 x AN/ALQ-119 ECM POD (Front port) and 4 x sidewinders.

Nothing with bombs then Gary? I usually end up doing the 3 x Sparrow 1 x ECM POD and 4 x sidewinders fit and was hoping for something different. But I cant find much on the 512 TFS, 86TFW in 1978

This was possibly the standard fit given the units role at that time Phil? What about 2 x personnel pods as in your original picture?

Wonderful build!

I went thru my AIRDOC USAFE Phantoms Part 1. Most of the photos from the 86th show them with two tanks and nothing else. The only other config were the mentioned Sidewinder, Sparrow load and one pic shows 74-0652 with two tanks and two SUU-21.

I like the load carried by a 50th TFW, 10th TFS a/c...three tanks, a Maverick and a SUU-21. At least something unusual.

Bloody hell.

How you work so fast?

Cracking job there and I have to agree with Jen....... an F-4 with a load of Mk82's (with fuse extenders too), looks well 'ard. ;)

This one is just a bit extra this week, my main work this week is a 1/32 scale Tomcat converted to a 'D' and that is proving to be a real pain. But that just needs a few more hours then it's done.

There were two squadrons in the 86thTFW in the '80s, the 512th, one of which you're doing Phil, and the 526th. The 512th was primarily a strike squadron, whilst the 526th was an air superiority squadron, hence the sparrows and sidewinders. If you're stuck, just go with a boatload of MK82s

Load outs Phil; make it snake eyes and slicks. snake eyes with fuse extenders to the tune of 6 on the wings, and 6 slicks on C/L :speak_cool:

Hi Eric,

The second link doesn't work for me?

Hi Martin,

I hope your keeping well. :thumbsup2:

Hi Phil,

Yes i'm fine, just very busy with life and stuff... so little time for modelling...

and after your :wicked: response on the IDF Phantom model pics i've posted i thought you where a little bit angry about me and didn't have the guts to come back... :fraidnot: had something to do with a Lawn mower Box... :mental:

:evil_laugh: only joking offcourse...

I had 2 more "half builds" done in the last weeks (once bought this way on ebay or something just waiting to be finished) 1:48 F-4J VF-84 and a 1:48 F-15A IDF looking nice but i'm not totally statisfied with the result (had the F-15 sprayed with Tamiya paint just the right gray colours i wanted and then when it got the Future layer on it it turned out much darker then i wanted (maybe because of the combination with Tamiya acrylics)?

And then the F-4 had a little F*ck up when i glued on the front window... a glue drop on it!) :mg::angrysoapbox.sml:

Only positive thing about these builds where that i learned again with pre shading and using your "old and sold" wash for the first time! :yahoo:

What glue do you use for the canopy's / windows?

Well i probably drop them on ebay someday and get a horrifying amount of money for them so i can drop a line to a guy named Florymodels to build me some proper model, well actually "between you and me" he builds shitty models...

:o and turns them into Jewels!!!!

btw got the new wash today as well Thanks!

Cheers mate,

Martin

You had me going you little tease

For clear parts I use a PVA called tacky glue. It dries clear and grips well.

If you need a new clear part sprue for the Hasegawa 1/48 phantom, I have one here you can have if that helps.

Oh Yeah! Looking good :speak_cool:

Have you decided on the loadout yet for it??

Karl.

No, but I did find the Vallejo colours for the MIG

FS35237 Dark Blue/Grey 048

FS36320 Dark Compass Grey 047

FS36375 Light Compass Grey 050

Don't no how good they are though but they tend to be in the right direction.

Brilliant work as always, Phil!

Your work is both an inspiration and a bit of an annoyance too... You work so fast you make us look bad!

I just ordered some of your wash the other day through your site and am anxious to have a go with it....

Thanks Dave, It's on it way. I remember your name when I was posting it.

Is this one for yourself Phil, or a customer?

It's a bit of both Daz as I'm using it as a test bed of a new product we're working on. So if it goes well I'll pay myself for building it and use it as a display model at the shows we hope to do next year.
