nimrod77
My wife has told me that I was obsessing (AS IF!!) over my other project, so I decided to get the modelers block.... um.... un blocked by doing something straight out of the box and just for fun. So I broke out my Moebius Models 1/32 Viper Mk.II from the new BSG. Started with the Pilot.. I really enjoyed painting this figure. Was fun and got to try out some new techniques. Painted with enamels in olive drab for the flight suit and highlighted with yellow by dry brushing... Followed up with a black enamel wash. Followed with the traditional Cockpit. Dials are all decals with the main colour of the cockpit being Gunship Grey. I decided that as I was going to pose her in flight that no one would notice that the dial decals are out of register (Fun remember) and went with the kit stuff. No PE here!! And Pilot in his office... Hope you like it, I am really enjoying this one!! Cheers all! Nimrod
chadders
These are great kits aren't they? I've got a few stashed away with all the etch and after market decals. I picked up 6 when they were going for $16!! I managed to pick up a rereleased Revell mk1 Viper at Telford as well, that I'm going to convert to a twin sticker when the resin pit arrives from the States. Oh, just a word of warning, the decals for the pilots arms, put them on the opposite arms as to what it says in the instructions. I built 2 before I noticed!! nimrod77
Done some more on the Viper over the last week... Cockpit and driver installed.. Engine intakes fitted... Front intake cleaned up and partially painted... Had to fix some sink marks on these.... Got a nasty gap to fill now though.. All in all a very nice and easy kit to build, especialy with the sanding as there are no panel lines to speak of!!!!!!!!! More to come..
Madmonk
Great start, I have one in the stash and just been looking at the PE set for it. Watching with interest.
rookie
Nice job Nimrod, got one of these on the bench at the moment, your dials look great. Given me a kick... I've been going through details for a couple of weeks. You've reminded me what I should be doing this for. At least it's above freezing in the garage now, so I'll be in there tomorrow. nimrod77
Done a little more and am ready for paint. I added some oxy hoses from guitar string behind the ejection seat. I had a hard time filling the seams along the upper engine cowl.... I decided to drill out the reaction thrusters.
Smiffy
Nice work. Got a few of these myself.
nimrod77
I did a little more. I have glued on the engines and canopy... I have painted the canopy black to give the inside a nice black frame.. And now I have primed the whole thing in Mr Surfacer 500. Gota love Mr Surfacer! More to come, just gotta get rid of a couple of scratches and average seams around the engines...
nimrod77
And now the stripes are on! Copied the decals for the sizing and shape, done in insignia red as per the kit instructions. Had to fix a few little errors where the masking hadn't taken properly, and still have a few more to fix. Nothing a brush won't fix though! More to come! Devilfish
Looking good. Been dying to get my hands on one of these. Keep seeing one in my (not so) LMS, but funds are a bit tight after Xmas.....

nimrod77
I have masked off the Metallic area's and decided to paint them with three different shades. Aluminum plate for the canopy, Gun metal for the engines, Dark Anodic gray for the front and side intakes and side equipment areas on the nose. And here is the end result I am really happy with it now! Just a few touch ups to do. I will wait for a day or so to let it cure as it is very humid here at the moment before Future and decals More to come :beer4:
nimrod77
I have tried a little airbrush weathering for the first time and I must say I did enjoy it I painted on the scorch marks around the RCS thrusters with black and Tamiya Smoke.I also dirtied up the airframe a bit with the same smoke colour. I'm going for something between this.. And this.. On to clear and decals, then more weathering Edited January 10, 2011 by nimrod77

nimrod77
Decals are on... And spare a thought -->(or a dollar)<-- for the people where I live, Queensland Australia, that are suffering the worst natural disaster in it's history. nimrod77
Finished!! Weathered using Pastel chalks and citadel Black wash. This is the first time I have tried the citadel wash and, although I quite like the effect that it has had on the metal areas, I am not a massive fan. I find it to hard to control and once on, it's ON! Nothing takes this stuff off. Oh well was worth a try... I will continue to experiment with washes till I find one that I like. Anyone got tips on washes over enamel?? Anyway, on to the pictures!! More... Hope you like it, I sure do!!
Smiffy
Very nice finish. I'd be happy with that. Have you tried the Promodeller wash?. I've used the black wash on dark metallic before and it worked pretty well. The beauty of it is, that it does come off very easily if you don't like it. (and don't forget to post it in Ready for Inspection)
