maltadefender
I've just taken the photos and realised that I haven't put the last control cable on to the rudder. Oh well, I'll sort that later but you get the picture (as it were). Here's my Crimson Lake Fokker (over the top of the standard finish)... I think it's my favourite result so far. With its stablemate, my 'fictitious Fokker'... And the flash shows that the stencils can still be seen...
rmcclure
Really nicely done - congratulations on that. How was the build? I've had a 1/28 Revell Spad on the bench for some time now and just got some EZ line for the rigging to try out.
maltadefender
Thank you! Build was fine - my second one of these in the last month. As usual for me the top wing was the sweaty part and I can really see the value of a jig. As it was I used cement on the struts that needed to stay malleable to straighten everything up and superglue on the ones that I wanted rock solid to guide the rest. On this one the rigging on the undercarriage is fully functional - it was all cockeyed until I was able to pull the 'wires' tight and superglue them in place. EZ Line looks like exactly the right stuff for these. I'll probably use it when I start doing 1/48s, but I've got the 1/28 Spad and Camel to build first and I'll stick with the cotton provided. I was hoping that the Fokkers would give me some confidence to move on to biplanes, but the rigging is still terrifying! Look forward to seeing your Spad. rmcclure
I've had a quick play with EZ line and it's great stuff but I don't think I'd use it if the rigging is to be properly functional, like you say it is on the uc of your Fokker. EZ line is very elastic so wouldn't hold things together. What was the supplied rigging like? I'd like to do one of these once I finish the Spad but the thread in that is more like traditional hairy string!
maltadefender
I don't think that the rigging is supposed to be functional - I just got a lucky break after a less-than-perfect job on the undercarriage! I used the standard-issue black cotton, which worked fine for me. It's not especially hairy. I'll definitely be using EZ Line or similar on the 1/48s (along with Bob's buckles), but I'm doing these big ones to get enough confidence to tackle the fiddly little ones. I think I will do the Spad next, as originally planned, because although it will need home-made decals to do Guynemer's machine I'm still a long way from confident enough to do the reprofiling of the bottom wing and struts that is needed for the Camel. maltadefender
Thank you both! She's giving me that cheeky Fokker (triplane) grin from the cabinet, replete with all control wires now!
