Jabba Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Time to join this GB, and I will hopefully be making two kits with a Gulf War one being the first. I wll be making XW547 which was of course Guinness Girl, and without the update that was given to her when she was on display at the Cosford museum. The kit Airwaves etch and SAM resin updates. The markings.
Mark M Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 its about time jabba i wondered when your brick would appear!
Jabba Posted November 30, 2010 Author Posted November 30, 2010 its about time jabba i wondered when your brick would appear! Unfortunately I have been a bit slow in finishing other kits, but I have got here in the end.
jimbuna Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Looking forward to this....I'm busy searching for the Corgi die cast version
Jabba Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Forgot to add this to the list of extras for this build. Has anyone used these before?
Jabba Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 Here is a quick update on what I have achieved so far. The cockpit has been built up with a spot of weathering to be done. I have also chopped off the wing tips and replaced them with the resin replacements. I have also hacked off the intakes and removed the excess material requires so that the resin ones can be fitted. It was a little strange that one side needed a lot more plastic removing than the other. If you can make out a bandage one the photos where I am holding the rear of the fuselages, don't worry this was not a modelling accident, I was unfortunate at work and got one of my fingernails slightly drilled which smarted a tad. Sorry about the rubbish photo of the cockpit area. Any comments are very welcome.
Jabba Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 The basics of the model are now altogether and at the moment I am starting to fill and sand. I have not added any extras at the moment but will do in the not too distant future. This will be mainly the airbrake and wing fold areas, although I may hold off a little on the wing fold until the model is painted.
Jabba Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 Another quick update on what is going on with this model, and that is mainly a lot of sanding especially around the nose and intakes. Still a bit more with the wet and dry to be done then I will have to tackle the air brakes, which will not be a small thing like I hoped as I will possibly have to do a little combination with the other kit that I am doing as I am not using the airbrakes from that kit. Anyway onwards and upwards.
jimbuna Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Looking forward to this....I'm busy searching for the Corgi die cast version Found it and purchased it.
Jabba Posted December 31, 2010 Author Posted December 31, 2010 Although not much seems to have been carried out this week, alot has gone on behind the scenes as they say. I have mostly been sanding down a lot more and have now started on the airbrakes. On this model I am going to have them open so have used the airbrakes from two models to do this, plus I have added some of the Airwaves update set to these. I have also decided upon the weaponary that will be fitted and it will have one LGB instead of the slipper tank, along with the normal Pave spike, ECM pod and Sidewinder.
Jabba Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 I have slowed a little on this one as I had to get another model ready for my local club night last week. Still as this one is only one colour to paint it should not take me too long to catch up a little. The main frame is now ready to be painted so hopefully that will be done over the next week. Any comments gratefully recieved.
Jabba Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 The painting of the fuselage has now been done. I have also painted the top half of the wings so the bottoms will be done shortly. So it is on with the Johnsons Klear and a bit of decalling, plus the addition of a few bits. I have also started to make up the weapons required.
Jabba Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 This one is now all painted up and I have added the open airbrakes, whch I had a lot of fun with not! It awaits a coat or two of Klear and then on with the decalling. Any comment gladly received.
Jabba Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 All the decals are now on, just a little bit of weathering to be done.
Jabba Posted February 12, 2011 Author Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) I have now almost got her altogether. The wings have been added and I have started to add the weaponry. The ejection seats have been built up just a few more touches to be added and then they can be added to the cockpit. Hopefully will all be done by Monday evening so it can go to my next club night. Comments gladly welcomed. Edited February 12, 2011 by Jabba
Jabba Posted February 15, 2011 Author Posted February 15, 2011 As promised here are photos of the finished model. Any comments are gladly welcomed.
Jabba Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Sorry to say that this model is no more as it met with an accident on the way to Yeovilton where I lost about 20 models.
