jamboseven Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Good Morning Gents, I have just bought the 1/35 Tamiya Churchill Mk Vii. It will be the first Churchill I will have had since my Dad built me the Matchbox bridge layer version in 1/76 about 30 yrs ago for me...I'm more of a Sherman guy but decided on a wee break from welded or cast hulls... so any hints/tips/suggestions on building this one would be very helpful. Does anybody know of a good resin set for it? I know Black dog do the Hessian turret for it but I was looking for bed rolls, boxes etc, etc cheers Jambo
pte1643 Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Accurate Armour do some. How about these babies...? http://www.accurate-armour.com/ShowProduct...amp;product=569
Paul-H Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hi Inside the amour do a full inside set And another thing to be careful of, if you build it as per the instructions you end up with a very late WW2 to Korean War tank, if you want an earlier tank you have to remove the Armourd air intakes. Paul
Paul Brickles Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Jambo Try here for a combined set. Very tempted to try this one myself Paul
ChrisITA Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hi Jambo, It all depends on what you want from the kit. If you just want something that looks about right, build it out of the box and you'll have great fun As Paul H says though, it is a post war version and thats not just because of the intakes: the turret has a number of postwar features and being a 70s mold the detail is a little lacking If you want I can give you some pointers on what needs doing but I don't want to go into it right now as I know some people aren't as fussed about churchill accuracy as I am and I wouldn't want to look like I'm saying you MUST do this or MUST do that If you can wait a couple of weeks I have mastered a new set that corrects all the kit faults (there are around twelve significant faults) and improves on the detail. This includes: - a whole new turret - Basic turret interior (including the radio) - new air intakes (with louvre detail and etched grills) - a metal 75mm barrel (the kit one is way under scale) - metal coaxial MG. - etch fret covering interior details, commanders sight, replacement hatch handles, straps for the oil cans on the rear fenders and more This set should be around £25 I'll also be releasing a pair of corrected idlers My interior (I run Inside the Armour) does not work in the Tamiya tank. This is because a) tamiya originally 'motorized the kit' which meant inside the tub bears no relation whatsoever to the real thing and my kit is for a 6pdr armed MkIII. The MkVII was a major redesign and is significantly different inside Chris
jamboseven Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 Thanks for that guys. I' d really like to do a late WW2 Churchill, all the stuff piled up on it, sprinting into Germany. Miniart are just about to release a set of British tank riders (NW Europe) so had in mind to do a little diaorama Jambo

ChrisITA Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hmmm I have a Tamiya Churchill Crocodile in the loft....hmmm..... Thanks for bringing it up Andy, the chassis is the same for the MKVII and Crocodile, my kit is suitable for correcting both so you can accurately use the kits 'normandy period' decals
Andy K Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Well I think I'll have to purchase this set when it comes out. What shows you doing in 2011?
ChrisITA Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hi Andy, So far I'm planning on doing MAFVA Nationals at Duxford and ScaleModel World. I may add more but I don't do local shows as a rule (not enough custom in amongst the wing fans and boaty types!) Chris

I think we'd probably be looking at the best part of 10 hours each way
Threadbear Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 (edited) Resicast do an excellent stowage set for Churchills. I have been usng one on my Crocodile. Its available from Historex Agents in Dover. Not cheap but excellent quality and covers two tanks. Incidentally you`ll have no problems with the kit, its a Tamiya classic.
