Hardtarget Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) To go along with the Do17 will be a Hampden flown by Roderick Alastair Brook Learoyd of 49 Squadron. Target: Dortmund Ems canal, a heavily-defended objective which received considerable attention from RAF bombers in mid-1940. Date: 12th August 1940. Aircraft: Hampden B.1 P4403 EA-M 'Babe' Learoyd later won a VC for his efforts during the war. Here's the progress of the last couple of days. Some main painting and fuselage cemented together. Ive added a bit of colour to the cockpit, which cant be seen unfortunately. Wings, engines and UC fixed in place. Ive used a mix of 171 and 53 for the engines. Tail plane fixed to the main fuselage. First coat of night applied to the undersurfaces.. Now this is drying ive moved onto the do17 painting the underside. Edited October 29, 2010 by Hardtarget
daz greenwood Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Nice choice a good way of the remembering our Bomber Boys who did their bit in the Battle of Britain.
Hardtarget Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 Been busy today seeing that its deadline day. Gave her coats of earth and green. Painted the the nacelle hu171. Kit also went well together, needed a little filler on the wing joints, and a little on the underside where the fuselage meets around the turret. I let her dry for a bit and then fitted the glass. Most parts fitted well but others required a little trimming and where it was not trimmed the gaps were filled with Micro Klear. Gave her a coat of Klear and painted around the engine nozels. She is now ready for decals. Decals duly applied except the serial number of which i have a question.... Did BC operate 8in serials or 6inch during the battle on hampdens? The kit decals meaure up at 6inch which could be an error as i only know of 8inc on BC aircraft. Only FC had different sizes of serial no's to my knowledge. Painted the bombs and fixed the red decals to them. cemented them in place with the bombay doors. Added the under wing pylons but did not add the bombs as I couldnt find a pic that actually showed them fixed. And now she is finished with the added aerial wires.
Hypnobear Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 That looks realy nice! Sure shows you dont need to go to all the hastle of rescribing panel lines and weathering to produce a good looking model
