My instructions tell me it's rust...
gcn
Their instructions sheet is on-line with all the colour call outs, and its in colourvision as well. It may be worth popping over there to see what they think.
Mike
Yeah - been looking around at some builds, and they're all poyple... Bit of a faux pas in the instructions then. Naughty Revell! Thanks for saving me from making a boo-boo
Mike
I glued the fuselage on, gave it its first sanding to remove the seams, and added the tail and lower wing just for fun. I had to shim the lower wing to get it to fit better, but other than that, nothing to report. I also took the opportunity to test fit the spinner and prop just to see how the wood grain effect came out

crookedmouth
What Mish said. The wood grain effect is very convincing. The Albatros has a lovely shape to it, doesn't it? Well ahead of it's time perhaps. Without the wings on you'd expect Buck Rogers to be sat in the cockpit...

Rowan Broadbent
Cor Mike, warra surprise, you building a proper aeroplane! Looks v.good! The Eduard Mercedes engines are all a bit on the wee side, Roden's version in their Fokker DVII is a lot beefier and more accurate. Glad you caught the silly Revell "rust" call-out. The worst thing about this kit, accuracy-wise, are the u/c legs as they're about 3mm too short - I think Eduard took the size from the side view and forgot that they were canted out..... Amazed that they never fixed that but Brian Fawcett is doing some resin ones (and some nicely detailed wheels as well) which I hope to have by Telford, probably too late for you then though. You can lengthen the kit ones or replace them with streamlined brass "Strutz" bent to shape. Worth doing, as without it looks like a pregnant Dachshund dragging its belly along the deck! Mike's going to stick, I can feel it in me water!
Mike
I think I'm going to have to strangle Martin for that one Errr... bending strutz... ick... I don't know... Not sure I can be arsed... or can I? I do have some knocking about, but I kind of like the attachment pins & so forth that are on the kit parts
T-Tango
Just caught up with this one Oh illustrious leader, looking good Mike, there does seem to be a bit of an empty void behind that thar engine, the prop looks cool, WnW next Mkey me ol' son? Mike
Thanks Pete. The empty void has a PE cover to go over it that I've yet to install. Is that where the fuel tank is on the real thing? WnW - much as I'd like to, they're a bit spicy for my tender wallet

Just checked the DVa instruction book, yes it is the fuel tank that goes in there, so you should be ok. What colour mix are you going to use for the plywood? T-Tango
Pardon my but where? The oil paints, the whole of the Albatros DV and DVa fusilage was made of plywood, thats how they were delivered to the Jasta's, pilots then painted their own colours on to the planes. T-Tango
Roger that... although with the color snafu pointed out earlier, I'm beginning to doubt myself The colours I've used for the camo on the wings are both Valejo Model Air, 70924 Russian Uniform WWII for the green and 70811 Blue Violet for the mauve, I don't know how accurate they are but they look about right and as we know these colours varied somewhat from plane to plane. HTH Cheers Pete
T-Tango
Hi Mike, I've just found this pic of Otto Kissenberths' aircraft for the summer of 1917, if you look closely at the wings they appear to be 'lozenge' covered, I don't know how that affects your build mate?
