spike7451
Just about to start to paint the Tamiya 1/48 Dambusters Lanc I got from Jonners & I am stuck as to what Humbrol or Revell paints to use for the main fusalage. Help!...
Andy K
Humbrol Matt 30 Green and Matt 29 Dark Earth topside, Matt 33 black everything else. Don't know what the Revell equivalents are sorry.

Miggers
For the black I used a 50:50 mix of Revell 8 & 9 blacks. It gives a slightly more "greyed out",sooty weathered black than straight Humbrol 33. I used 29 & 30 for the topside cammo, but added a spot of white in a 4:1 ratio, i.e,1 drop of white to four of Dk earth or Green. That makes them look slightly "faded". It depends of course whether you're doing a high time a/c or a clean tidy just from the M.U aircraft. Mark
stever219
I prefer Humbrol 116 to 30 for WWII RAF Dark Green: 30 has a bit of a blue cast to it. I've found that mixing 33 and 67 also gives a less stark "scale black" for the undersides.
Alex Gordon
I'll go with the Humbrol 116 Green idea.Humbrol 30 doesn't look appropriate to me.Has anyone in here seen the real thing back then for themself and could they please put us in the picture? Andy K
Humbrol 30 USED to be quite appropriate for Lancs but the recipe must have changed if 116 is a better match. Hmmmm.....
maltadefender
Really, really, really buy from a specialist. Xtracolor, Xtracrylics, White Ensign... same price as Humbrol but they just look right. If there's one thing that's helped me towards adequacy it's getting good paint. If you're brush painting enamels then avoid Xtracolor and go for WEM. Mind you, WEM Dark Green is very difficult to get hold of. They seem to be permanently out of stock. My backup is Humbrol 163. Wolfpack
Humbrol 30 is just wrong. Use 116. W
galgos
You haven't said whether you're using enamels or acrylics. If the latter, you won't go wrong using Vallejo Modelair paints Dark Earth 71029 and Dark Green 71012. For "black", use 71054 Dark Grey Blue. JosephLalor
I think both 116 and 163 are good calls for a dark yellow-olive, 30 is rather vivid and bluish. 29's formula appears to have changed. It used to be slightly orange, but now seems to be similar to the old HB2. Joseph
Dave Gibson
I'd go with 116 (30 should carry a health warning), 29 and Revell 9. Revell 9 is a great scale black. Dave.
stever219
Humbrol 163 is a better match for post war RAF Dark Green: like so many things the formula seems to have changed....
