Panzer Vor!!! Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 hi guys i took a freind from work on sat to the tank museum, while looking at the exhibts he asked how did a muzzle brake work ??? on thinking about this i reasilsed that i didn,t know. as anyone any ideas??? dave
davidelvy Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) My understanding is that as the projectile reaches the muzzle break the explosive gasses are momentarily forced sideways, which has the effect of partly counteracting the backward force on the barrel. Someone (possibly a trackhead) will probably have a more scientific explanation. Edited September 6, 2010 by davidelvy
MASH4077 Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 All to do with reducing recoil. See this item: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_brake Tony
davidelvy Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) ... oh yes, you could look it up yourself. Probably a more sensible suggestion. Edited September 6, 2010 by davidelvy
