Fifer54
Further to our resident Jedi's thread in which he mentions anniversaries in 2012, here are a few ideas which may prompt someone to suggest a Group Build connected with one of them. In no particular order:- Malta's George Cross Battle of Midway El Alamein (both battles) The Dieppe Raid Battle of the Java Sea PQ17 Operation "Torch" The "Baedeker" Raids It's possible I may suggest something nearer the time. I'm actually quite apprehensive about my own "Emergency Services" GB, and will wait to see how I go on with that before getting myself into co-hosting another one!! daz greenwood
Also can I suggest one for 2012. The Battle of Stalingrad started in late 1942, and this could cover both aircraft and AFV's.
robw_uk
assume the Falklands has been done recently but it will be the 30th anniversary..... one that had occurred to me (doesnt fit in with an anniversary) was Lend Lease.... so anything used under the lend lease WWII agreement...... Windy
I always fancied a 'international rescue' group build, basically any rescue group/squadron/aircraft which has been used. This includes air sea rescue, combat rescue and even the coastguard from any nation.
stever219
Would anyone be interested in commemorating Operation Pedestal, probably one of the pivotal moments in the Mediterranean campaigns of World War II?
AnonymousDFB1
I think a Maltese GB has been muted and I like the sound of that one. I also think a Falklands GB has been muted. We do have an emergency services - air/sea rescue GB planned Stalingrad would be a good one. Midway would be covered by the planned pacific GB Some great ideas, guys. RussTnailZ
It would be nice to see some GB's that encompass every genre and the only way i think it can be done is a TV / Movie GB where you can build anything from any TV show or Film aslong as you can get pics so people can see the likenesses if anyones intrested i would have ago at hosting Russ

robw_uk
not sure how to develop this one but 2012 will be the 100th anniversary of the death of Wilbur Wright.... (May 30th to be exact)... perhaps something on aircraft pioneers...... maybe prototypes........

JohnT
Might be covered by Pacific GB but 4-8 May 1942 Battle of the Coral Sea First naval battle in history where the opposing fleets did not directly fire on each other or see each other heralding the arrival of naval air power as the deciding factor in the control of the seas John
robw_uk
not sure how to develop this one but 2012 will be the 100th anniversary of the death of Wilbur Wright.... (May 30th to be exact)... perhaps something on aircraft pioneers...... maybe prototypes........ of course, if 2012 GB calendar is full we could wait a year and use 110th anniversary of the first powered flight (I know there is some debate about this but it is the accepted first powered flight) and do the same thing..... expanding a little (and if I am still a round I would host it).... pioneers (so Wright brothers, Bleriot, Amy Johnston, Allcock & Brown etc... noticeable FIRSTS in aviation) or prototypes (so Spit prototype, Harrier prototype etc..... and then final suggestion... I will be 40 in 2012 so how about models of anything available in 1972.... now that is harder (would say any kit from 1972 but thats hard to prove... so any vehicle, ship, plane being actively used in 1972)..... lol...... oh yes - last one... 2012 Olympics.... so how about Greek aircraft (most tenuous I could get I am afraid)...... Micha
How about a "Just For Fun" GB?
Fifer54
How about a "Just For Fun" GB? That appeals to me, but I think it's too wide for most people on here. You might as well call it the "Anything goes" GB. Another idea that's a variant of this would be to have a GB where the theme is a modelling genre, e.g., Figure model GB, Car modelling GB, 1/76 or 1/72 armour GB, but getting modellers to participate in a GB that's outside their "comfort zone" might result in a poor uptake. mrcooljules
I still want a dinosaur GB...even if its in a couple of years or 3 lol....mind you, in 3 years most of the people on here will be dinosaurs

Micha is German (east), he doesnt know what fun is lol..... i think he means non military esp on the tv/film GB and think he has a point. I had never thought of doing WW2 military for that but was thinking more classic tv/films that were non military related..i mean you could make something out of Saving Private Ryan, but you could also do that in a military GB. i mean, theres enough military GBs, which are right up my strasse but now and again i like to do something non military, hence the dinosaur GB (did the Lufftaffe use Pterydacktils????) lol Edited September 7, 2010 by mrcooljules
Micha
Micha is German (east), he doesnt know what fun is lol..... and that's the biggest mistake of all Britains! Some might forgot it ... but Hitler ain't alive anymore! And Hitler was on power for only 12 years (thanks God and some really brave Britains) more than 60 years ago! WE KNOW WHAT FUN MEANS! Unfortunately, no one of you tried to learn German seriously ... or any other language, by the way. So what gives you the right to say, the Germans - especially the East Germans - don't know what fun is? If you think, to have some fun is like to pay for an expired monarchy ... then ... ok ... this kind of fun we Germans do not understand. We kicked out our monarchy a long time ago. Our humour doesn't start from Benny Hill and ends on Mr. Bean! And we don't need to hose gays and handicapped persons like those in "Little Britain"! I'm really sorry, guys! ... but stupid crap like this makes me angry! That's no fun ... even if Julian thought, it would be funny ... but that's just sarcastic! What I meant by that "Just for Fun GB" is to build some models in really loud colours. Most of you always want to build war stuff and asking for their colour schemes. Why don't you build such an Messerschmitt or Spitfire in pink? Or in colours like yellow, green, red and blue? This would be a nice way to show that you're not a warrior-wannabe. I saw one of Bexy's photos of that colourful A380 ... something like that, I thought (did the Lufftaffe use Pterydacktils????) lol that's not funny, Julian Edited September 7, 2010 by Micha

I saw one of Bexy's photos of that colourful A380 ... something like that, I thought that's not funny, Julian But i have lived in Germany, East Germany, i know many many Germans, my age, younger, older and they all say Germans generally do not have a sense of humur, i have seen german comedy shows, some are funny, most are not, and my german friends agree with me... The first time i went to Germany, i tried to learn the odd word (not leant at school) i pretty good at speaking German now, i cant write it, but then i struggle with English.... I can speak a bit of slovien, cos i dated a girl, some with finnish, spanish, mandarin etc etc. i goto poland and say a few words (very few actually...) I goto the German seaside, i goto Festung Koenigstein, i goto places many english dont go, i like the german way of life (i dont like many of the german laws...but as in rome as they say). I love WW2 armour, 80% or more of mine is German (none of my german friends like it) yet i have one German friend who loves the Hurricane from WW2....i love making model cars, US police cars with the odd muscle car, yet have no interest in trucks etc. i HATE bikes, but some people do. I have no interest in modeling WW1, it bores me, so does KOrea and Nam...but others do. I have no interest in civilian aircraft, none at all....but you do, thats fine. Can I just point out that pterodactyls were not dinosaurs? Neither was Dimetrodon... i know but i want to keep it simple. lol im sure i had that kit as a kid by airfix. oh and thanks for spelling it right, at least you knew what i meant Edited September 7, 2010 by mrcooljules
Micha
I got a video on youtube about England's lost world cup game of the BBC. go to position 5:30 and listen what the BBC commentator has to say: "...Germans ... in irritatingly good English saying 'England's going home, it's going home" That's what we call "FUN" Germany has changed ... and the eastern part more than the western part since 20 years now because we had to catch up a lot. The old guys less than the younger ... that's for sure. It's no wonder if the older ones never laugh ... they all hang on their nostalgia what we call ostalgia (German "Ost" means "east" in English). My Dad is one of them. But the younger people are much merrier and cooler and have much more fun. You could see this after the German world cup games: after match party "Germany - England" after match party "Germany - Argentina"
Basosz
Why don't you build such an Messerschmitt or Spitfire in pink? Actually... there was an operational Spitfire in pink It was a Recon version. Apparently the pink made the aircraft very low-visible against the clouds I'm really sorry Micha, but I just couldn't resist
AnonymousDFB1
Right one more comment in this thread from anyone about any others members nationality and their stereotypical ability to have fun and I will close the thread. Apparently the pink made the aircraft very low-visible against the clouds I'm really sorry Micha, but I just couldn't resist no problem at all ... that's exactly what I mean ... to paint them pink or any other colour There's a topic about a pink Jeep here on britmodeller.com ... but I don't know the link at the moment. I'd also like to build an A380 as transporter like the Antonov machines in camouflage painting ... there's an A380 in 1:144 on the market as "visible interior" ... I need parts of the interior for the TV/Movie GB and then I still have that wide open A380 which I could use as such a transporter and to show what's inside: the Eurofighter for example which is also available in 1:
