I think it's Hachette, but yours sounds closer the the truth about the final cost of these things :S

Hatchette did a Flying Scotsman partwork (finished earlier this year), and many of the subscribers on the various model railway forums (fora?) referred to them as Hatchet because they had problems with the build, the parts, or the customer service. Myself, I never had a single problem with them, and if I liked German tanks I'd happily subscribe. After all, I couldn't afford to buy a 1/16 Tiger tank in one go, but spread the cost weekly and I could.

Yikes - I think I'd rather buy a few Tamiya's. Cost of the mag build is over £700 if you include the binders. I wonder how many people actually finish these kinds of projects? I know I couldn't! Hell... I haven't finished ANY models in over two years! :)

Does it say how many issues ? I must have missed that.

And as it's metal with interior i'm wondering if it's the Forces of Valor/Unimax tooling ?

Yeah - but as always, they hide that info as much as possible. If you watch the TV Advert, you'll see it pop up in small print "Supplied over 140 issues", so it's one issue at 50p, one at £2.99, then the remaining 138 at £4.99 - plus the binders at £5.99 apiece (I reckon there could be as many as five, but I could be wrong). Damned expensive way to buy a tank - even one as desirable as this!

far too expensive, considering the tamiya one even with all the rc gear will be less than that, and im sure a much better model

of course one could wait till something like week 30 then pick the first 30 editions up from Ebay unopened for a tenner :)

just seen the tv ad for the first time (well last half)....whats the origin of the model?

Posted

the TV ad is on the link in the first post..

anyone know if the parts come pre-painted/finished ?

I cannot find where it says that it is metal, and as the gun barrel is shown on the magazine cover in two pieces? I would have thought in 1/16th it would have been a turned metal barrel, also the man in the TV ad is handling it as though it isn`t very heavy, looks like a giant con to me.

Had a look at one in Smiths today. Barrel is in three parts. Interior etc will be very sparse and a bit toylike from the look of it. Armour has zimmeritt effect applied. Looks to be moulded in grey plastic.

I have a Forces of Valor King Tiger, but i have a friend who has their Wittmann Tiger issue, so will soon be able to compare. My gut feeling is that it's one and the same, as i can't see a magazine tooling up for something they may or may not sell in it's entirety

Also in the small print it says "adapted from the german series Tiger-Panzer" so a quick eBay search for worldwide completed listings produces this list of issues released so far... Link

Plus some interesting chat on the German AFV forums... Link 1 and Link 2

On the website it states the model is made from metal and ABS, and one of the free gifts to subscribers is a couple of bottles of paint, so it must come unpainted.

Hoo-hoo.

This could well be a good source of bits for my 1/16th HL Tiger.

Gun tube, bow m/g stuff like that.

The tracks unfortunately won't do.Mine's and early production variant.

I thought the exact same as soon as i saw it. Better off saving the £299 and getting it instead!

Doubt it, you rarely fine these things on the shelf for more than a couple of parts.

ie Pre orders only after issue 3 or 4

Now if they had done a Late Panther with Steel wheels and ,.........

No T(h)anks will pass on this one.

PS:

Regarding '' Build a *** in x weeks/issues'' has anyone seen anymore of Ted Taylors Lanc build on here?

Photo of issue one metal parts which i will have a chance to compare to a FoV Tiger on Monday. The zimmerit pattern should give the game away if it's the same tooling.

This was released 'oop north' a few months ago and I thought 'hell, why not!'. The TV advert said it was mostly all metal construction, so that was tempting. I bought the first issue with the metal bits, then when the subsequent parts came out, they were injection plastic....totally contrary to the advert, so I binned it.

Had a chance to compare the parts to an FoV Tiger today. As you can see, the mantlet alone has detail differences such as hole in different position, angled not curved around the conical nuts, no zimmerit on top on the FoV example etc, etc...

The barrels also have different lengths and detail differences, but in summary, the part-work example seems to be a fresh incarnation.
