Gary West
Very quick update - she's had a coat of Satin gloss now and the decalling is completed. The Gunners strip on the tail was too short to fit the full width of the tail, so I had to paint the front part in. Before I turn my attentions to dirtying the undersides up, I noticed that Phantoms show "wear" arround the panels where I've masked off - quite a few reference photos show this wear in a matt lighter shade of Green. I'm going to give this a go, then try Phil's sludge out once and for all.

tedtaylor
I gave it a couple of days, and sanded the affected Grey areas down, then re-masked and over sprayed. All that pre shading is no longer visible Sticking the decals on now, after which she'll get a satin varnish finish. I'm going to try one or two interesting (for me) things with some of the panels to try and give it some depth - these shiny birds can look a bit boring all nice n new. Gary a nice way to shade panel line areas is to use very thin Tamiya smoke after you have coated all with your Klear then add your final coat of what ever you use cheers
tedtaylor
looking good, you don't see many flying can openers around at shows, Roy Huxley has just entered a painting of one of this squadrons aircraft in the Guild of Aviation artists exhibition. Gary West
Spent some time on this over the weekend, so thought I'd add an update. Quite a bit to do still, including adding the SNEB pods, crew ladders, RBF tags, and the ejection seats. The stabilisers are sprayed up and nearly ready to go on. Hopefuly next update will be to say she's done.

tedtaylor
Jake - Evergreen make lots of styrene/plastic sheets and also several shapes and sizes of the kind of materials that Model train enthusiasts use - track layout, that sort of thing. Hannants supply it, but their range (in shop anyway) is quite small. Try your local Train hobby shop - guaranteed to have it. I have also seen it on Ebay, and there is an on-line store somewhere that offers it. It's really best to get into a shop though so you can see the large selection available. Sorry but hannants sell Plastruct not evergreen in the shop, if you want evergreen see The Modelshop website they carry everything you could think of for the modeller a real Aladins cave plus you can get your decals made there and youe etched brass and even lazer cutting now they have had the new machine installed. I have no connection except I get a lot of material there, the owner is a guy called Ziggy, a very helpfull person. Ted
