NG899
Hi, Glenn Sands has passed me the following Press Release... PRESS RELEASE: KEY PUBLISHING LAUNCHES AIRFIX MODEL WORLD Key Publishing Ltd are delighted to announce the launch of Airfix Model World, an exciting new magazine for scale modellers, published under licence from Airfix. As Europe’s leading publisher of aviation magazines with sector dominant brands such as FlyPast, Airliner World and AirForces Monthly, Key are ideally placed to bring this title to market due to their knowledge of the subject area and the promotional opportunities afforded by their current portfolio. “We are absolutely delighted to have formed this partnership with Airfix in order to launch Airfix Model World. Airfix is a massively strong brand with a great history and following and we are relishing the opportunity to bring something very fresh and vibrant into the market,” stated Adrian Cox, Managing Director of Key Publishing. Darrell Burge, Airfix Marketing Manager said, ‘’We are very excited about the launch of Airfix Model World which further expands the Airfix brand into the magazine marketplace. Key are the perfect partners for us as they have so much experience in publishing high quality market leading specialist leisure titles. I am confident that with the strength of the Airfix brand combined with Key’s publishing expertise, we will have an absolute winner on our hands.’’ Airfix Model World will cover all modelling genres but will focus on aviation, the largest sub-sector within this market. The 100 page magazine, which launches on 4 November 2010 with a monthly frequency and superb production values, will have a cover price of £3.99. I have no direct contact with Key other than via Glenn so suggest you check out their website directly and contact them for more info. Is it just me that thinks it's a bit wierd that Elvis has made ten times more money since his (alledged?) death than all the time he was alive??!!?? . . . Untold story but myself and some others did talk to Hall Park about their plans for resurrecting Airfix Magazine at the time and had some meetings with the directors who wanted to bring in "a fresh new team" to broaden the appeal of the mag. It all seemed very interesting but Alan Hall decided to bring in Mike who was an old acquaintance, he produced one issue and that was that! Max Headroom
This is the full page advert in this months Flypast. Dick Off topic (slightly) also in FlyPast is a full page ad for their F-86F "The Huff". It looks a bit gorgeous. Can't wait (until the RAF version anyway)! Madam I'm Adam
While I accept that aircraft modellers are the largest group in the hobby, I really hope it caters for a broad range of modelmakers. Cheers
brianthemodeller
Got my copy from Spitfix at Cosford today. Not read all of it yet but, having skimmed through, it looks to be a cracking magazine. 100+ pages with a good mix of most subjects - aircraft, cars, space and tanks (but no ships or trucks in this one). Don't want to go into too much detail 'cos it will spoil the anticipation but, suffice to say, I heartily recommend it! Brian aka Smug git!! TheModeller
Bought the 'souvenir' launch issue at Smiths this morning without reading it first... Ho hum, more of the same, lovely production, quality paper stock and cover, but while some of the the individual articles are really quite good I'm left with the feeling that all these mags are now coming from the same individuals PC, the one with the busted grammar-checker that can't understand that the word 'build' is a verb and not a noun, right from the first paragraph of the editorial and through every subject heading. Oh, and the page layouts are just as badly handled as the worst SAM has thrown together lately, blocks of unhelpfully small images and text confusingly torturted into fitting around them, I've been able to follow Manga graphic novels more easily! No Glenn, I'm sorry but you won't find me "always planning my next build", I plan my next model. I also don't need to see big hands holding airbrushes that obviously aren't doing anything to understand how to paint my model, nor a Phantom with it's landing gear all bent to be impressed by a contributors abilities, stuff it full of resin and etch to your hearts content, if the basics aren't right then its all wasted effort! I won't even comment on yet another sooty B-o-B Spitfire that spent its service life in a Welsh coal-mine! On the plus side Tony Butlers Sea Vixen article was nice, even if it was lacking because it has been forced into the limits of a magazine article, though both the new model, Ian Hartups DB9 and Mat Irvines Saturn V were very nicely done and backed up by well written copy. Overall I liked the book reviews pages and the fact that the mag is clearly aimed at a wider market than just aircraft modelers. All the same, promote p#ss-poor english all you like, but you won't catch me wasting good money on it, I can get bad grammar on the Internet for free! Harsh? Yes. It's meant to be! PenquinTony
[, the one with the busted grammar-checker that can't understand that the word 'build' is a verb and not a noun, ] er, actually according to my school teacher, and the Oxford English dictionary, "build" is a noun too.
