Martin @ RAM Models
Yesterday I received a much anticipated delivery in the form of a set of moulds which will enable to crack on with a full size NSD Dalek build. The moulds will enable me to construct all the body structure with the exception of the dome head, neck rings and the hemispheres for the skirt. After that its a case of making the detail bits such as the eye piece, gun and of course the famous sink plunger. Originally I was going to make a Dalek the good old fashioned way using timber as the basis for the main body parts however when I saw these on ebay I couldnt resist. I am now in the position to pull a couple of mouldings and make more than one. Although I havn't told the Mrs that yet. So here's the first pictures, please excuse the messy room. Half way through decorating so hence no carpet etc etc. So...............next step is to drop the moulds of to a proffesional company who are going to do the glass fibre work for me (i have no experience in this area and have no wish to screw the moulds up). TonyT
For what it takes and costs to lay up fiberglass, I could see you having a nice earner selling pre-made sections on the likes of EBAY, just keep an early one in case you ever have to reconstruct the mould. I would consider insuring the moulds if you can so if they feck up you are covered to getting another made. Martin @ RAM Models
I have to be honest when I posted this thread I wasn't sure about what the response would be. But seeing all the positive replies Im more than happy to see this one through. All I will say is it wont be a quick build due to various other commitents. A few months ago I dragged my wife to the BBC Mail Box in Birmingham on a research trip. Below is what I went to photograph in great detail (and boy did I get some odd looks of BBC security) and a taster for my next major project once the Dalek is completed. Not sure which Tardis I would go for though. A New Series replica or one of the many other types. Plenty of time before that decision has to be made though. The wooksta V2.0
Reading between the lines, it would appear Martin could well be in a position to do this. I'd like one myself - I'd like to do it in a white & gold Imperial scheme - but have neither the space or the readies. Oh for that lottery win! Martin @ RAM Models
Martin, not sure if you've come across this website, but it might be of use:Dalek 6388 Obi-Jiff Hi not seen that link so cheers for that Obi. On that link have you noticed the Dalek under construction and the blue hemispeheres on the skirt. Now take a look at the example that I photogrpahed at the mail box and look at the scratched paint on the hemis. Again that blue. I wonder if it's the same Dalek? Bazza
Wow !! That looks good. As for the "blue balls" Yes,the ORIGINAL prototype N.S Dalek did have Turquoise Hemispheres.(seen it somewhere) Before they painted it Bronze/Gold. I am relieved tho' that you ain't done the "Matt Smith" version...it looks... Sorry but i'm a Traditionalist, towards the "Cusick" Version. Good Work, keep it up !!(Or you will be EX-TER-MI-NAAATED !!) Cheers Bazza.

Cheers Bazza. Yes I have read about the prototype having turquoise Hemis. Apparantly the skirt was an old Dalek prop (I can not remember if it was an original Shawcroft or not) which was reused. I seem to recall reading it in a Who book. I did ask on one of the Dalek forums if the Dalek at the Mail Box was the prototype but I dont think a conclusion was ever reached. Re the Matt Smith Dalek. Yep I absoloutley agree. A fantastic series and an amazing Doctor (IMHO one of the best) and they ruined it by tinkering with the basic shape of one of British TV's most iconic robots/monsters. Maybe I should post up pictures of my replica of the Tardis fragment the Doctor pulls out of the crack in time from the Cold Blood episode ? Obi-Jiff Kenobi
I am relieved tho' that you ain't done the "Matt Smith" version...it looks... Too tall, too plasticky, and it's got a fat bottom! Horrid horrid horrid. They should all be exterminated. I much preferred the retro-Army look of the 'Ironsides', in green, especially the one with the blackout covers on the 'ears'. Maybe I should post up pictures of my replica of the Tardis fragment the Doctor pulls out of the crack in time from the Cold Blood episode ? Yes please, Martin.
