dylan the rabbit
Crikey! You mean take a box out of the stash and just build it OOB, as fast as possible? Blimey. Mid epoxy resining an Aeroclub RE8 engine block together on Friday afternoon, and looking at the rest of the unstarted kit in the box, I thought, this is going to be a long haul. Especially with all the scratch building I'm going to need to do. So why not just build something quick now to get back into the swing of things? So, here we are. Tamiya 1/72nd mk1 Spitfire. Nice kit, and it's just falling together really well. Love the little details of the kit too, like the decal seatbelts. The cockpit's done (not too fussed about it as the hood will be closed), fuselage is glued together, wings glued up, and I have to fit the two together (strangely for a Tamiya kit, the bottom of the instrument panel part sticks out too much, so you can't get a flush fit in the wing join, so I'll have to sand it down) later. It's going to be a pre BoB black and white undersides Spit when finished. More to follow. Tata, Nick

dylan the rabbit
Yes, I agree. I overdid it deliberately though, as subtle shading didn't give strong enough contrast when the sides were closed up. Thanks for looking though. Phil @ Flory Models
great start Nick, It's a loverly kit, just like the Airfix 1/72 spit.............................oh no, sorry I was dreaming Keep them coming
dylan the rabbit
Ok... The fuselage closed up nicely enough, and on went the wings. Bit of a fit issue to be sorted out, but nothing that a little sanding wouldn't do. Bit of sanding the seams, lah de dah, and then on to the canopy. The canopy was Futured (Kleared) masked up and stuck on, and then off to the paint shop. First things first was to give the canopy and wheel wells a blast of interior green. When that was dry, we turned our attention to the bottom... I initially tried some Shitadel White Skull on the undersides, but after a little disastrous spray decided that would be best as frost icing for a cake, so binned that idea. Must of had a bad batch, as it was just awful. Had to sand it off. On went the Tamiya X2 White (not the easiest of stuff to spray well) and when that was dry, masked the (not entirely accurate for this build but who cares) full length demarcation, and on went the Tamiya X2 Black. Prop assembled and sprayed, and here we are to date. Will mask off the wings tomorrow in prep for the dark earth. Cheers, Nick
dylan the rabbit
So much for a quick build!! Anyway, fresh out of paint shop, and ready for the next stage. The Dark Earth is Revell, and I initially sprayed Revell for the green, but it turned out a little pebbly. Cleaned that up, and then resprayed a coat of Xtracrylix RAF green. Have already sprayed the wheels, undercarriage legs and exhausts with the silver undercoat prior to other paintjobs, and will slap some Klear on tomorrow. Thanks for looking. Bobs_Buckles
Nick, I think you are doing well me old fruit. I bet you are really enjoying the build as well. OOB is the way to go for me of late. Getting bogged down in man-vegetables and fine detail. Why? I think we all go through it but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have got to get a grip! After all, I don't do competitions, clubs or magazine reviews. Be just me, a few of the lads down at Hannants London and u lot who will get to see my final results. So from now on fine detail is going to be put way back on my to do list. This morning/afternoon saw me doing more modeling in 4 hrs than I have done in the last 4 weeks. My temporary split from Aircraft to Armour has been a bloody revelation! Keep up the good work matey. Bob

What armour have you been at of late? I agree about OOB. Completely relaxing, and just fun. I'm going to be putting some effort into Fatty Goering's DVII, but the other stuff I'm doing at the mo is just for kicks. Why, with all the effort I put into painting this little Spit's cockpit, you can see dick all through the canopy anyway! Back to my editing..
