Hi

My first ever poll anywhere so hope it works.

So what do you personally do when you buy a new or old model.

open the box or leave it sealed

I suppose it is inspired by all those old model kits for sale on e bay still with the original seals/shrinkwrap.

cheers

Jerry

Normally open within seconds, sometimes I manage to get it to the car, at shows i've been know to open the kit and actually start work cleaning stuff up and test fitting as i have a few tools with me, kits are made to be built!

I have learnt over the years to always open and check after gettting a couple of duff kits.

Plus there is always that head rush when you get to fondle new plastic.

First time, on arriving home, and then probably a couple of times a year I'll go up into the loft and have another look.

I always plan to build these things but find just having another look, check the bits and decals etc. then close them up and put them back on my shelves.

It's probably some kick back to my childhood and nursery rhymes that I was told "The King was in his counting house, counting all his money...) For money read models.

I suffer from a lack of curiosity, I read the reviews, looks at the photos of the sprues, buy the kit and put it in the loft, to be honest there could be anything in the boxes in my loft !

I always open to check for detailing and more importantly damaged or missing parts

I always at least open the box, and usually open the sprue bags too for a good look. I've had a 109B with a wing half so short shot there was only 1/3 of it there, and a mate has had a Transall with no tail before, so it pays to check them over :)

These days, I target good quality models and buy them at the right price- as the price of the new stuff is getting silly.

having been extremely close to the financial edge at times recently, sales of kits has kept me going, so NOT opening the bags etc on a crisp new Hasegawa kit is my current style- hey, it works 50% of the time :analintruder:

If my kit makes it out of the shop (or any place of acquirement) or even as far as the car, unopened, then I'd be surprised.

The wife would be happy. Once or twice the Car Monster has tried to eat an unattached part which me and my (unamused) wife are searching the car floor for. :kissing2:

Open, fondle, drool.Good look at the decal sheet, decide on which version.Usually within minutes of sitting down in the bus home.I only open the bags on the bench however,my carpet monster is bad enough without spreading it all over the floor of the Brylaine home from Boston

I open the box as soon as I get home, read the instructions, and check out the decals, but rarely open the poly bags until I'm ready to build.

Box open - bags open - sprues out - decals examined - instructions perused.....every time!!!! I sometimes even take the bigger parts off the sprues and have a little 'test-fit'!!!

Shrink wrap off, look inside 99.5%, if it's a duplicate it's often left sealed...however, some types of shrink wrap keep on shrinking over time and with the light weight boxes, the box begins to get crushed [eventually]....so taking it out of the wrap makes sense if your planning on long term stash storage...
