Good lord, finished one! First proper build...

Recommended Posts

After much research, debate and enjoyment, I think we're almost all agreed that the finish applied to most of the Hurricanes in late 1941 was Tropical Land Scheme - namely Dark Green/Mid-Stone/Azure Blue.

Given that the identities of many Hurricanes in Malta got a bit blurred, and that in April-June there was a common pool of aircraft at each airfield to be shared by the squadrons based there, few of these aircraft featured individual squadron codes but did have individual identification letters. Not all of them had their serial numbers on either - either overpainted or, frankly, redundant after so many rebuilds!

As such I've just done my best to make a 'generic' look for this Revell 1/72 model. It's the second kit I've completed since returning to the hobby and the first time I've ever used such exotic materials as decal softener, clear parts glue and matt varnish. It's far from perfect but I like it - and thank you so much to Troy Smith for the decals and to Nigel Bunker for the pilot figure. First a couple of solo shots:

And together with my Corgi Malta flight showing the wide array of colours on show in 1941! We have the 'Bosun blue' Mk.I recce kite, standard temperate land scheme Mk.IIa and 1940 Dark Earth/Light Earth/Sky Blue Mk.I Trop from 1940... and my generic one, alongside the 'rather-too-blue' Spitfire Mk.Vb from 'Merlins over Malta'

Thanks chaps, first one must be a bit nervy for everyone and so many toys I never had to play with as a kid... gloss paints, matt finishes etc.

Thanks to forum members I'm on my way and looking forward to the next few! :hobbyhorse:
