An African What-If

The year is 2012. Following the disastrous SDSR out come, the RAF is forced to cancel all of its Tranche 3 Typhoons, but due to the exceedingly well written contract (for a change) the Government has to pay most of the production costs despite not taking delivery of the aircraft. BAES are left with a number of brand new aircraft that few nations can afford but which have mostly been paid for.

In Africa, oil exploration is spreading southwards from the known oilfields in Arabia and northern Africa. The growing religious insurgencies in the north-east of the continent are worrying some of the sub-Saharan African states where oil had recently been discovered. Some of these nations current fleets (Mig 21s, F5s etc) were ageing and whilst the insurgencies did not yet possess credible air power there was a a worry that many of the Russian supplied Su 27s and Mig 29s supplied to some of the regions air forces were under threat of misappropriation. The latest Typhoon FGR4s freed from the RAF's delivery schedule were seen as a were seen as a potential solution to counter an air threat whilst also providing a stepped change in the new field of Combat ISTAR for some of the newly wealthy nations. That is a cracking job! Really suits the lines of the Typhoon and very different to another grey scheme. Has a touch of the 70s RAF to the colours.
