Hey guys, I'm wanting to get myself a good kit of the Stug. I was watching a nifty show on the Discovery Military channel about the Battle of Kursk featuring Russian T-34's, Tigers, and Stugs in fairly good animation. What would you suggest as a decent kit of a Stug with enough detail and fit without too much after market stuff...?

Cheers, Laurie

In 1/72 the Dragon ones have got very good reviews. However I've never ever seen one, either built up or for sale. I don't like the look of the Trumpeter one, based on the illustration on the box.

In 1/35, both Tamiya and Dragon do very good StuG IIIs, with both long and short guns. The Dragon range is bewildering - higher kit numbers are usually newer and more detailed - while the Tamiya range is fairly small. Both also do a StuG IV, although only Dragon's is really accurate. The downside is that none of these is exactly cheap; Tamiya's are more affordable but will still see you off for well past twenty quid, even on eBay.

In 1/72, the Revell StuG III is well thought of.

hey Sean, well past 20 quid sounds normal for this neck o the woods...!! If the pound is close to 2 1/2 times the Canuck buck, that puts it around $40-$50 bucks. There aren't too many DML/Dragon?Tamiya kits that are NOT under this price...! It seems the maroe accurate the kit, the more "stuff" they include in the box...the higher the price. Stands to reason I guess. What with Slide molding, PE, Resin, its no wonder they command a hefty $...!

Still, I always look at life in the modeling lane the same as life in the woodworking shop. I like good, dependable tools. You just CANNOT get that from Walmart or Tesco's...?... ;) Same goes for kits I guess.

Thanks for the help guys,

Hi Laurie

My suggestion would be the Dragon kits.

In 1/72 we have this

For details go here http://www.dragon-models.com/html/7283poster.htm

and the same variant but in 1/35th scale

For details go here http://www.dragon-models.com/html/6320poster.htm

Using the kit numbers if you Google search you'll find reviews and builds of these around.

I've the 1/35 scale one, but as a special brought out depicting one commanded by Georg Bose, they also did a special commanded by Bodo Spranz. But both are just kit 6320 with some minor changes, decal sheet etc.

The kit has been out about two - three years and Dragon have produced a version with the additional armour plates depicted but I prefer the bare version myself and I really like the box art on this one.

regards

Alan
