COLD WAR EASTERN BLOCK JET POLL

Recommended Posts

My TOP 5 eastern block aircraft of the cold war would have to be:

1. TU 22M3 BACKFIRE

2. MIG 21 F3

3. SU 27

4. MIG 17

5. KA 27 HELIX.

All odd choices in thier way but I love the subject, these and in fact all Soviet era aircraft seemed to have great character in thier appearance.

Anyone care to chip in?

Su 22

Mig21

Mig 23

Mig 27

and er............. SU 17 lol

having stood next to hundres of military airfcraft over the years, only the Mig 21 (DDR) can make me drool but only the SU22 can make me look in awe.....

cant belive until you get up close, how badlyfitting and riveted not even close to being flush they are.

At the moment doing a 32nd Mig 21 MF, a Mig 15 (and found a 17F in my stash lol)....and as soon as i can get a etch folding tool, will start my KP SU-22 based on fotos of the one i own in real life (ok its sat in a former DDR airbase Rothenburg, but i let them keep it there just to show people...................................they just think its theirs lol)

For the ones i hate (cant see a thread), Mig 27, Mig 25 and those sorta ones, dont know why but they just dont float my boat

Mig 25

Su 22

Hind

Mig 29

Caspian sea monster air floaty thing

Hind 24? sat in one in Cottbus, former DDR one, took mega loads of fotos of it, i even have a decal sheet in 72nd for that airbase so its on my to do list........i hate the mig 29 and 25, dont know why

Tough call, I love the old Soviet Cold War stuff as much as the British Cold War planes.

1. Sukhoi Fitter family (A brutal looking batch from the Su-7 to the Su-22)

2. Sukhoi Su-24 Fencer (Made the F-111 and Tornado look cute and cuddly)

3. Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot (Reminds me of the Buccaneer: A rugby thug with wings)

4. Mil Mi-24/35 Hind (intimidating from the outside and gives you a real feeling of power just sitting in the pit)

5. Yakovlev Yak-28 line (A respectably versatile and long lived aircraft. A bit like a Canberra with added speed)
