1/144th Skyline B737-300

Recommended Posts

OK, this really was a labour of love! The kit and decals have been looking at me rather ominously from the stash saying 'build me!!' for the last four years and I think I've finally got there. The kit, the Skyline B737-300 single version boxing, is incredible. I purchased it way back at the 2006 Nationals in Telford and it is easily the most detailed airliner kit I have built to date, but then there's that Zvezda B787 now looking at me! But I digress...

The kit was built out of the box with the addition of the Skyline Decals (by Danny of DACO fame) for Western Pacific's 'The Simpsons' Fox Studios logo jet. The decals were difficult to say the least and required judicious quantities of setting solution and in many areas required the use of a hairdryer to soften them further. The yellow paint scheme was airbrushed with Xtracolour X316 Simpsons Yellow, the wings were painted Xtracolour X301 Boeing Grey. The Blue areas were painted Vallejo Acrylic Dark Blue, 70930, after being matched to the decals. Final finish was with, well, Finish!

The photographs turned out to be the biggest problem at the end of it all, with respect to finding the most suitable background. Regardless of the backdrop you still need sunglasses! :coolio:

Anyway, I really, really enjoyed seeing this one finished and I am rather proud of her. She might not be a British airliner nor even in a British livery, but I'm happy! I hope you like it and as always, criticism is never ignored and is more than welcome! That's how we learn, isn't it?

I think that unfortunately you'll have a job finding that sheet. Apparently Maiden's lawyers took umbrage & made Ray at Two-six withdraw the sheet from sale. or so I've heard!

That's a really nice build Mark, very good job on the decals, they look great! I actually started one of these about 4 years ago! I suppose I should get round to finishing it now yours has given me the incentive!

Very nice. Id like to do this, gotta find the decals first!

I just wish that they would re-release them again.

thanks. New ones should be in soon! Think it will be on my Telford list!

It has been saying that for quite a while.

Wow, thats a crackin 737 and a LOUD scheme to go with it, very nice indeed.

I've one of each of the 737 variants that DACO produced in the stash (all to get BA markings), and did another -400 as a RAF "What if" Combi/freighter -

The kits are brilliant and my dream would be for Danny at DACO to produce a 757 of the same quality, oh I'd have loads of them!!

Nice build Mark
